Hey everyone. There's a Kickstarter for AE-WWII that just started yesterday. I'm not associated with the game in any way, but I've been a fan since the very beginning and I'd love to see the Kicksatrter do well. You can see the Kickstarter here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/blackballgames/ae-wwii-european-theater

AE-WWII is an alternate history WW2 game full of zombies, cyber gorillas, Native American mysticism, Russian Psychics, Indiana Jones, attack dogs, robots and all kinds of other weird stuff. When I first saw it it reminded me a lot of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. The first two books (The Core Rulebook and the Occult Expansion) were a lot of fun. This new Kickstarter focuses on the new European Theater book.

The Kickstarter is offering a nice selection of model packages for a pretty good price, with more models that will become available as stretch goals. Here's some pictures of what's currently on offer. This is just a selection. Visit the Kickstarter page to see everything.

Here's some of the other models they've released for the game. These are just a few of my favorites. You can see the full line here: http://blackballgames.bigcartel.com/category/ae-wwii

Japanese Hive Soldier

American OORD Agent

ROA Beast of the Apocalypse

German SS Knight

Amerian OORD Wendigo

American Buffalo

I'd also like to say that Duncan Huffman and Matthew Hope both seem like really nice guys.

i have a handfull of the original resin masters of some of the infantry from a few years ago...
very cool minis, with optional extras for the leaders...

the couple behind Darkson Designs are good people, who have worked hard, for years, to get his game out there...
it didn't ever seem to take off as well as i thought it would...
i don't know the new guys involved, but hopefully this kickstarter will draw more people into the the cool
settings they have created...

cheers

I'm not sure. Robert was the guy who was called up for active duty, right? I talked to both Matt Hope and Duncan Huffman at PAX this year and they were really great. Or at least that' who I think it was. I'm really bad with names. Anyway, over the years I've had a small amount of communication with the people behind the game, and whoever they were, they were always friendly and happy to answer questions.

I had high hoped for this game, as well as the other Weird War II game that came out about the same time called Secrets of the Third Reich.

It is always disappointing when this genre doesn't do as well as it 'should'!

Hopefully this will be a successful Kickstarter leading into a new golden age of true table top wargaming for Weird War II!

Same here. I think AE-WWII suffered from being the product of the effort of just 1 or2 people. I mean, there's nothing wrong with that (I run a small game company as well), it's just easy for to not have enough time when there's just one or two of you.

I never played Secrets, but some of the models where nice.

Personally, I like SOTR. It's a nice blend of Weird War II and WWII that it's unique.

AE-WWII, in my opinion, suffered from not really that much exposure. SOTR had West Wind Productions behind them and the release of "Incursion" helped quite a bit with exposure as well.

The US robots are really nice.

Overall though I'm not interested in another WeirdW2 game in which Britain and the Commonwealth are given token representation.

I may be wrong about this but it seems like they were just starting to develop Britain, Japan and the US Native American stuff when everything went dark. So hopefully if the Kickstarter goes well (or even if it doesn't and the game continues anyway) we'll see more units for these forces.

This may very well be the first kickstarter I get behind, I really like the starters.

Nice models. I'd potentially like to get a starter set or two, but the prices for them aren't especially exciting with shipping added.

Anyone who has pledged willing to suggest they add a 2-starter-no-rulebook level pledge?

I'd probably use them for Incursion/SotTR/Dust/Tannhauser, so no need for more rulesets. I'll also use my Bolt Action and other 28mm WW2 figures for troops, so no need for their regular troops (for me, anyway!)

I know that Rob uses to go to all the gen cons the last few years great close knit group. But when you are called to active duty and can't keep an eye om the company it did create a lull that they suffered through.

Great game though! Ill be watching the kickstarter

I signed up, the rules and 2 detachment level. Did not have the money when it first hit. NOw I do. Hope it takes off, from my reading at the time I prefered this rule set over SOTR. Nothing wrong with the latter, just thought AE-WWII had more 'potential'

Which is funny because I had the exact opposite feeling - especially as SoTR had the ability to use existing WWII plastic kits for vehicles, and even had an excellent 'design your own mech/vehicle' section!

Still, this is about AE-WWII so... go AE-WWII!

Yeah, not a fan of the rules, and I think others had issues with the game as well.

Which is sad, since the miniatures are pretty nice.

The AE-WWII rules (and models) are very good and interesting. I was involved in testing this game prior to its initial release and must say it was a unique and fun experience. I'm surprised that the original version never really took off big, given the obvious quality of the rules and sculpts.

Here's hoping the re-release does well.

New stuff from the Kickstarter! The Kickstarter is about 2/3rds of the way funded. It won't take much to push it over the top!

If the project is funded everyone at the Lieutenant level or higher will get an SS Vampire model!

If the project reaches $17,500 everyone at the Lieutenant level or higher will get a Hoodoo Conjurer! I've been excited about this one since I first saw the concept art!

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

They've just posted some new add-on options as well!

New Models - For a $10 addition to any pledge, backers can select one of the following new models: SS Vampire, Vril Engineer, MoAA Agent, OoRD Agent, Schutzkommando.

Templates and Tokens - For a $30 addition to any pledge, backers can add a set of tokens and templates.

Starter Set - For a $35 addition to any pledge, backers can add their choice of starter set from those listed above.

Scenic Bases - For a $10 addition to any pledge, backers can add their choice of scenic base sets (trench works and urban rubble) from Secret Weapon miniatures.

I'm particularly excited to pick up the SS Vampire, Vril Engineer, MoAA Agent and OoRD Agent!

This one is pretty good.

I have a American Starter set from the old company.

The game plays well, but they had a very small run as far as selection. There was word that these guys were either similer, or add ons to the DUST guys, but that kida got lost somewhere in translation.

The German side generic Ilsa Shewolf of the SS is missing from the selection.

Her alternative look is over on the Dust game- leather gimp mask and riding crop to spank the naughty kids with.

The Chumans are a riot. I want about ten of those to go along with the Pulp city ARC faction.

I've been watching this kickstarter over the last few weeks and it's been a very slow burner. A couple of days ago I would have sworn it'd never make it to the goal... but with 5 days to go it's finally tipped over the edge, which means that everyone who has pitched in at the $130 gets a free Druager

Unless something spectacular happens, the two stretch goals won't be happening... but it's nice to know the book will be making an appearance.

I just noticed that despite several (most) of the Starter sets being made of figures that seem to already be in production, you won't actually have them in hand until April. (if the KS doesn't slip!)

There's just no value in this one for me, since I'm not after another set of rules or another $100 investment. If I find a retailer that sells their models, i'll probably pick up a few for other WWW2 games.
