I have read through this thread http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/487121.page with little luck.
I am trying to figure out something slightly different though. Even if a seeker missile from a skyray/devilfish/etc is at BS1 to hit a flyer, is it the same if it comes from a flyer itself?
I am thinking about fielding a Barracuda. Upon that I am trying to figure out a way to make it a bit more devastating to other flyers as anti-aircraft.
So does a seeker missile from a flyer to a flyer hit on a BS1 or BS5 (assuming you can get a markerlight at BS1 to begin with....)
Thank you,
Waffles

Even if the vehicle is shaken or stunned, it fires the missile at BS 5, so it's always the same, even if your barracuda is stunned/shaken, it's missiles fire at BS 5.
Check the tau FAQ, it talks about firing seeker missiles.
Granted the barracuda has the option to gain skyfire, but this is a moot point for the missiles.

If you elect to use Skyfire with the Barracude then the weapon is not subject to Snap Shots so I would say that yes you would use the normal BS.

I have 4 weapon systems on a barracuda, and I can fire up to 4 systems at a time using the skyfire rule.
If I fire all main systems and then use up a markerlight hit to launch a seeker, does it hit at BS5?
Likewise, if i call skyfire and have a markerlight against a tank, if I chose to shoot a seeker, does it hit the tank at BS5 or BS1?

The seeker missiles may always be fired in addition to your normal armament.
No matter what, the seeker missile fires at BS 5, as per the rule in the codex. Remember that you can fire seeker missiles anytime during your shooting phase, provided there is a marker token/hit on something.

Here is the rule from page 81 from the BRB under Missiles:
"A maximum of two missiles can be fired per Shooting phase, and they count towards the number of weapons fired that turn."
In regards to Skyfire and then shooting at a tank, that falls under the contentious argument in the previous thread you mentioned. I would say that you should discuss the matter with your opponent ahead of time.

Yes, and yes. Only problem is the barracuda itself doesn't have a networked markerlight, so you're still going to have to hit a flyer with someone else's markerlight at BS1 in order to fire that seeker missile, making it a very low percentage move in my opinion.

so does that mean that I can only have 2 seekers launch off the barracuda a single turn?
Is this in contrast to a skyray that can also take more than two seekers, and can fire them all if needed in a single turn?
Do "Missile" pods count too?
Does this mean that I have to choose before hand to fire the pods or seekers, even though a markerlight can be shot after the shooting of the barracuda?
Wow.... this is getting ugly fast....

And the tau codex allows one or both to be fired in a single turn.

One last thought.
I know a marker light that is hit on a flyer can not increase my BS to my broadsides to hit the flyer, but can it be used to incease BS to something that can (ie skyfire flyer) ?

Yes, provided you can get around the hard to hit rule, with something like skyfire, markerlights can boost your flier to hit almost as well as nercon ones.

My apologies, for I am not trying to derail this thread.
If I can increase BS for a flyer, but not for a ground troop, can I increase BS for the flyer's burst cannon's on ground troops when in skyfire mode?
I am still a bit confused why I can not increase BS for one but not the other.

No you can not increase the BS when firing at ground targets when you have chosen to Skyfire, as you must use snap shots on ground troops when in skyfire mode.

Yea the issue is hard to hit applies a set value, and this overrides normal BS. So while you can shoot say 3 broadsides at a flier, with +2 to their BS, it's always a 1, due to set values being applied last.
So BS 3, to 5, then to 1.
If the broadsides had skyfire, then they could be boosted to BS 5 and never have the hard to hit set value applied.

Might want to check on the idea of firing Seekers counts against your 'Missile' limit. I'm having difficulty interpreting what the current understanding is , so all in one go, this is what it should be.
1. Your Flyer may fire up to four weapons on its firing sequence, during the Shooting phase, counting each 'Missiles' individually. (WWHHHHYYYY GW!? FOUR!? WWHHHHYYYY!?)
2. Seeker missiles supersede this limit as they are 'Activation of a special rule'. Thus can fire using the firing models BS, at any time in the shooting phase, irregardless of weapons already fired. (Remember, the Barracuda is the firing model, yes, but not actually in control of firing it.)
3. The seeker missile will always use BS 5, against any target, as it will be the last 'Set Modifier' applied by the active player, irregardless of shooting 'mode' the flyer used that turn.
Just sayin'. Dont taze me bro!

I can't parse your sentence because I don't understand this word (never seen it before) it looks like it means regarding, is that right? Is it a misspelling of irrespective or regardless?
Sorry depending on what that means your sentence has opposite meanings. I looked the word up, but its not in my dictionary ( UK dictionary though, so if its a US word that would explain it).

Irregardless isn't a real word, so parse it as he had used 'regardless'.

Seeker missiles do not count towards the 2 missiles at a time limit, nor does it apply to the four weapons at normal BS for flyers because the platform carrying the missile does not actually fire the missile, it is merely holding it.
Think of it as the seeker missile fires itself which is always at BS5. With that in mind it would be impossible for a single seeker missile to fire itself more than once.
The trick is the missile cannot fire itself until a markerlight paints a target first the hit from which is determined by the unit carrying the marker light and any special rules effecting it (HTH, TL, etc..)
