Hey, looking at making a new 2000 point army, id like it to be as balanced between fluff and competive as possible while leaning towards competitive. This is what I got so far

HQ
Chaos Lord.
•Chaos Bike
• Mark of Nurgle
• Black Mace
• Gift of mutation
• Sigil of Corruption

Chaos Sorcerer
• +2 Psyker levels
• Mark of Nurgle
•Palanquin of Nurgle
•Sigil of Corruption
•Spell Familiar

Troops

Plague Marines x11
• +6 Plague marines
•Plasma gun
•melta bomb

Plague Marines x11
• +6 Plague marines
•Plasma gun
•melta bomb

Plague Marines x11
• +6 Plague marines

Plague Marines x11
• +6 Plague marines

Fast

Bikers. X4
• +1
•Gift of Mutation
•Melta bombs
•Mark of Nurgle

Heavy

Obliterators x3
•+2
•Mark of Nurgle

Havok Squad x7
•4 Auto Cannons
•Icon of Vengence

The idea is to have a foot slogging army that can sit on objectives and hold their own against assaults which I understand Plauge marines to excel at. The Nurgle Biker Lord goes in the biker squad and counters any threat. The Sorcerer on the Palanquin gets put in a plaque marine squad and gets two Biomancy powers and the required Nurgle power. Use him to buff the plague marines and do any attacks possible.

The best thing about plague marines is their ability to spam special weapons at low unit count. I would play up to this strength and chop up those squads and cram in the special weapons!

Im a huge fan of nurgle bikers and like your chaos lord with the exception of the black mace. I would think the murder sword or burning brand would be a bit better here if you wanted to roll with an artifact.

I could see why the burning brand of Skalathrax. But I don't see the point of the murder sword. It seems like a power sword with the ability to scare away one enemy character.

Ok so tried updating it but I'm not sold on taking the murder sword over the black mace.

The size of the plague marines has limited the additionals you have and as the42up describes misses a trick with them.

The bikers will become either an expensive (albeit tough) foot slogging unit, or they will act as bikes and over extend themselves and be at the mercy of most of the opposition army's heavy weapons firing; while your plagues wander into range. 5No. T6 bikes will not last long against autocannon, lascannon or missile launcher fire!

SImilarly while the plague marines get into your opponents face the havoc and oblits will not kick out enough fire power for a 2000pt game, particularly when the other main thing competing for the opponent HWeapon attention it the bikes. Okay the oblits are a tough unit to knock out but they don't put out enough fire power for their points imo.

The reverse also become true; if the oppoent has anything which can negate the fnp rule on the plague marines then the heavy support and the bike unit suddenly have to focus on it; if you are facing one or two vindicators suddenly your opptions for what you target will reduce.

Coupled with this you have no real AA (or not enough of it), so a heldrake with a bale flamer would make allsorts of green goo out of the plague marines.

It's all coming from having too many points invested in the plague marines and having little in support of their foot slog across the board.

So what would be a better unit size for Plague marines? Have 7 with the 2 plasma guns apiece?. And where would I put points into? More bikes? Another havoc squad with missiles?

The bikes could use some special weapons to be of real use, 2 meltas and a biker or two more. an ADL line could help as well

Fill up the heavy supports (2 oblits and 1 havoc) and reduce your plague marines to max 7 models each. Also, consider a cheap cultist unit and probably 1 heldrake in there.
