Hello. I was wondering what people think of the new GW basings kits? Are they any good? I must say I enjoyed the old 40k one. I think I might try the badland one.

They look good, they've got a lot of cool bits to them, but at the end of the day, 33 USD seems far too expensive, but idk how that translates to Norway's currency.

They cost around 270 Norwegian Crowns at the store where I work, but I get a discount.

(33 USD is more like 190 crones but Norway have what you Americans would call big goverment so the state adds some feeds. Obama would be placed -very- far on ouer right side. )

So yeah expensive, but I really like modeling. :-) Perhaps I pick it up.

They look like they have some good stuff in them, but those prices just put them outside the range of what I want to pay. Most of what they offer can be picked up in the model railroad section of hobby/model stores, just in separate, larger quantities.

I got the "Death world" basing kit and it included lots of awesome stuff that are perfect for my lizardmen. The rubble and stones are really not worth the money but the leafs, spiders, flowers and glyphs are awesome!

I bought the badlands one. It was bad. Not very impressive.

I was interested in those basing kits too but theres not really any good pictures of the contents. If anyone has one and could throw up some pics of the resin bit and such i'd be very appreciative.

The prices are insane for those. £20 for a small amount of basing material is a joke. Especially when, as CIsaac said, you can get flock and sand and pretty much everything you need for really cheap at model railroad stores, not to mention you'd need 3-4 boxes of GWs kits to do an entire army.

What this particular kit contained was some big rocks, some brazz etched grass. And there where some bases that you can put in the bases. These had some parts that made them look like they where undead parts. Also some parts that made them look like 40K. However, I do belive that if you have some models from diferent armies you can easaly make them yourself.

As inspiration, fine, but it is not worth the money. Ask your oponent for some spare parts and you do the same for him.

depending on the one you pick it varies in usefulness. some of the etched brass ferns and other plants can be pretty good but its nothing special...

some might be useful but their all too expensive

I was going to order the one with green crystals in, until I realised I could get them from Wayland for £2 - £4!

Needless to say they got my order...!

lol yeah but they are a bit bigger i believe...

but there are those kids science kits where they can grow their own crystals... you can use that to create your own stuff and its lots of fun to do

In the past some of the basing kits from GW have been pretty good, but after i had a good look at the latest ones, i had a look around and you can get just about everything that is in them cheaper for more.
It is the same for most things with the GW brand name I guess, and as someone has already said you would need more than a couple to do a full army, Although it is handy for doing a one off fancy base perhaps??
I do like the etched brass items, but after looking around, i did find some places that did similar and alternatives, so if i do want to use something like that I dont need to buy what is a rather expensive item from GW to just to get them.

Good idea!

I might create a forest out of those "grow your own furry tree" things lol.

Anyway, before we get OT...

The crystals I've ordered do say they're suited to 28mm mini's, though tbh, I don't want them to be the biggest focus of the mini so that's not a massive problem, plus I saved £11 over the GW ones, definitely worth it imo

The grow your own furry tree things fall to pieces at the slightest knock. They look great when they grow though... but are useless for use as actual trees though :(

Another day older; another day closer to death ...
