Probably been asked before, but google or search on forum didn't give anything. According to the codex Karanak provides a move through cover bonus to his unit, however the 6th edition rulebook says that beasts automatically have move through cover special rule.

Am I overlooking something or has this ability become obsolete in the 6th edition?

He's an upgrade to a unit, so can't join other units.

So yes, I suppose it would invalidate that rule.

Karanak's not considered an upgrade to a unit because the Heralds of Chaos 'unit' is simply an organizational 'unit'. All of the upgrades to it are independent characters and not bound to each other. All of the Heralds can join other units.

And yes, Karanak can join units other than beasts. Whether or not Beasts' special rule of 'never being slowed by difficult terrain' applies to other models is up to debate. I don't think it does.

You're answering a question from 2012 talking about the previous Daemons codex, where Karanak was indeed an upgrade character. And no, in the current codex Karanak does not give Move Through Cover to anyone he joins.
