So, I saw the steam autumn sale is going on, are the 2 KOTOR games worth grabbing for $5?

For KOTOR 1, its worth it. Actually can you just purchase KOTOR 1 at a reduced price?

Yeah, I'd say so for KOTOR 1. KOTOR 2...IDK if it was boring or I was just burned out on playing KOTOR 1 after going down evil and good paths. I got bored fairly quickly and stopped playing after a few hours into it.

I'd agree on the first one being the best, though the second does improve the combat system much more. Storywise however the first seems the best, though I haven't finished the second one yet.

The first one had an amazing story, but the second one wasn't bad by any stretch. And you started out as a jedi instead of that weird multiclassing thing.

$5? That's less than a hamburger. Of course it's worth it. Great game, great story.

The 2 games for $5? Hell yeah!
The first game is much better than the second imo, but they are both good!
Just checked it.. each game is $5. I'd buy first one only

I played kotor 1 when it was on sale and it was pretty good. The gameplay is pretty simplistic and levels slightly boring but the story makes up for it.

I might get kotor 2 now that it is actually on steam.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

Interesting that the second game is finally available as a digital purchase.

Also, don't forget about mods

Absolutely worth it for 5 dollars. Both are very good (you could debate which is better all day, but its KOTOR2 with fan patch imo) and well worth your time.

Definitely. KOTOR 2 is a "classic" sequal, it's better than KOTOR 1 in all respects but the first is still worth playing.

Uh

I fething HATE KotOR 2. As I posted in another topic a while back, KotOR 2 has the "honor" of being the worst game I have ever played. I hated almost everything about it.

For $5 I would say you can give it a shot sure. For myself, thats a gigantic waste of $5.

Ya and The Empire Strikes Back is the *exact* same movie as A New Hope... lol

Oh the changes in game play were great (hence the word almost in my post)

and I liked some of the companions (Handmaiden, Disicple, Visa Marr, roughly half the total I think, maybe just under. )

But god damn that story was fething bad, conclusion was horrible, and half the companions were fething horrible

I think you and I played different games. KOTOR 1 and 2 are damn near identical, I couldn't even tell you the difference in the story (genuinely).

Hatred for KOTOR 2 is one of those things I only find on the internet. There was honestly less difference between KOTOR 1 & 2 than there was between Fallout 1 & 2 (I played them both when they originally came out), except there was no internet back then to stoke up nerd rage.

KotOR 1 is about a Jedi who goes out to uncover the mystery of an alien device that could be the key to why the Sith Empire is performing so well in the war. It has a plot twist of you being Revan and conclusion is to fight your fomer apprentice as the Republic and Sith fleet clash in the background
Main 2 companions, a Jedi Padawan who is highly skilled and loyal to the cause but has trouble handling the responsbility given to her and a Republic Officer with a tragic backstory of betrayer and lost and is determined to defend the Republic

KotOR 2 is about a Jedi who had lost connection with the force and RANDOMLY started to regain it, the Jedi goes out on a journey to assemble the Jedi Council to ask them a question you already know the answer too (note thats the main story, the stuff with Nihuls had nothing to do with your journey) Conclusion is walking around on an empty planet for the longest time, when you finally hit the epic battle it is against a former companion who is missing an arm.
Main Companions are, a former Jedi who yells at you constantly, even when she isnt in your party, no matter what decision you pick and I can not give a fair description of Atton because my beef with him is just he clashed with MY PERSONAL style. I hated Atton but I guess I get how someone would like him... I guess

But I seriously hated almost everything about that game. I just thought the story was so bad. It remains to be the only game I actually paused in the middle of it to ask "why am I doing this... oh ya I remember... wait why do I care?" with a horribly unsatisfying ending, several companions who I legitly hated (and several that I loved) There ARE parts I liked, I loved Onderan, half the companions, the fact Telos was in the game, and the updates to combat and other gameplay changes. Thats it, that is all I liked about the game.

The stories really were pretty similar, specially the henchmen. Good grief most of them were a carbon copy of the first game. But I will admit, I very much didnt enjoy the endings in KOTOR2. They seemed to just,.....end.

The gameplay is near identical.
KoToR 2 had much more polished gameplay IMO but that's expected from a sequel.
In terms of story they are fairly different but the second one seems a lot more dependent on you already being invested in the Universe and mostly having played the first one.
That said when played alone or together both games are great...

Much

As I said, the game play in the second one was great improvement. It had all sorts of little changes that did wonders for the game in my eyes. But they were small subtle changes so looking back, you dont remember the difference but playing one after the other you can clearly say "this is much more polished"

Testify, you're going to find some people have really high expectations that are so high they're not grounded in any sort of reality, I feel sorry for video-game developers these days who know there products will never be good and will be considered overrated at best.

Well you cant be talking about me because I actually keep a decently low expectations for games.

example, games I liked that most people seem to hate

Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Wars, Warhammer Mark of Chaos, C&C 3, Red Alert 3, EndWar, Shattered Union, Soulstorm, Dark Crusade, Space Marine, Starcarft 2, the SINGLE PLAYER of Black Ops/Modern Warfare/MW2.

honorable mention to Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull even though its not a game. I expected very little from it and I got exactly what I expected... so i actually enjoyed it

Im actually the guy who usually tells people they have way too high expectations for games. All I ask from a game is that they have an enjoyable story. It could be a carbon copy (litterally like someone modded the game) of the first game if its a sequel and I wont care at all. I just want the game to have a good/fun story.

KotOR2 completely failed in my eyes to have a compeling story. Its the only game to date that I have ever said while playing it "Why Do I care about this?"
