I am thinking about starting an Eldar army.
Should I wait for the new codex release for Eldar?
Should I start Eldar now?
I'm not sure what to do, but I feel like it's a real akward time for starting Eldar.

Do you have an army now that can ally with Eldar. If so there's no reason not to start one if you like the models.
Enjoy

Their current Codex is badly out of date but can still deliver the hurt if you know how and where to send the units. Sadly before you learn that you're more likely to be picking models off the table before they managed to do anything. So many of their units are specialists in some area and helpless when not used for that speciality, and most of them are very fragile too.
A Farseer with a couple Dire Avenger squads (or Pathfinders) wouldn't be a bad addition to armies that lack psychic support and troops like that. Solid psyker, solid basic troops.

You can only take 1 troops choice as allies, so 'a couple' of Dire Avengers squads is out. A Farseer and one squad is a nice psychic base for any army however. Moreso if they are BiA.

Allied force detachments can take up to two troop choices but only one is required.
I can tell you from experience that Eldar can be a very nasty army when fielded correctly so in terms of their rules I would say there is no reason to wait for a new codex to start. As far as models go thats really up to you, if you like the current models then why not? No real release date is set in stone as of yet and who is to say you will even like the new models.

Based on current rumors, it's not likely Eldar will get a new codex until earliest, end of 2013 or early 2014.
Eldar can still do fine right now! They make for great allies too, either as a primary or allied detachment.

Yeah, It's probably going to be a while before you get a new codex, so I think now would be a fine time to start them. In fact, now you can build your army with 6th edition in mind.
I play with an allied force of Eldar, and they are just so much fun.

Played them a couple times in 6th. Still trying to find what works for me. ATM they're the only full mech army I still run. Mixed results, but admittedly I'm pretty terrible with them.

I started playing in early 5th with Eldar, and after a little getting used to they're doing better now than they ever were. Even though a few of my favorite things in the book aren't too viable anymore (Banshees with Yriel in a Serpent ), plenty of other things became much, much better (Rangers, Warp Spiders). We have the best psychic defense in the game, the only protection against perils, and tons of solid shooting, which is great considering 6th is mostly a shooting game. Guided War Walkers with Scatter Lasers are one of the greatest things ever.
So no, I don't think now is a bad time to pick up Eldar, I think it's the best time in a while. They do have a steep learning curve, and you will lose most of your games at first, but once you get the hang of it you'll love them. And most of the models are still pretty beautiful for their age!
