I find that every time I see the Heldrake the model grows on me. I am planning on buying it but don't like the way it's positioned and such. So I just want some ideas from anyone, especially people who've bought/converted it, on how to make the model look good! Thanks for any and all help.

I had the opportunity to model one of these monsters...

I didnt like the lopsided droop... I ground out the " x " that holds the flying stand and was able to get the flyer to sit "flat".
The neck spines need to be trimmed off at the back of the neck. There are too many spines to make the neck sit "up". I trimmed off the last spike closest to the neck socket.
If you plan on magnetizing the wings, do it before you construct the model. Use the heavy magnets. The wings are pretty heavy ( in comparison to the length ).

Hope that helps a little!

I've seen a surprisingly good-looking squid conversion using the helldrake. From what I remember, they took the wings and created a squid-shaped body and then attached tentacles to the front which I think were either from the kit or from a dark eldar talos.

It looked very similar to the kraken submarine from Dreadfleet.

Most of the wings are connected at a ball socket with a "key" for a certain position. Removing this key will give you some freedom in positioning most of the wing panels.

I have a feeling many other joints can be easily position as well. Personally I would like to see a diorama with the heldrake grappling a vendetta and flamming it like in the codex.

This is one of the best subtle conversions I've seen. Just some of the wings flipped and repositioned. Keeps the dragon look, but makes it more aggresive looking I think.

Okay, thanks for the help guys, I believe I just had a brilliant idea! Flipping the wings about, the tentacles idea I like, but it's for an Undivided army with a Khornate influence so I don't think it works too well... And I was thinking of picking up some plasticard tubing at my LGS and cutting off that anus engine in the back and replacing it with some smaller ones. And need some cheap way to elongate the tail, I'm not the greatest at greenstuffing so I wouldn't count on that unfortunately... Thanks for the help in advance!
