Beastmen are great, great WS and T in Gor and Primal Fury is the real draw. Beast Lord and GBS needs more protection IMO, I like Armor of Destiny on the BL and Tails of Pres. on the GBS. Lore of the Wild sucks, drop it, shadow is pretty decent on a level 2 as Miasma is cheap. BSB is cool but Beast Banner is where it is at. Make 40 Gor, drop the 2nd unit or get a unit of 20 ambushing in. Split the Harpies into 2 groups. Add more bestigor if you can fit it though 30 isn't too bad, get the Standard of Discipline. Razorgor chariots are expensive drop at least 1 grab 2 single razorgors. Jabber isn't competitive but is fun keep him if you like him.
Overall Beastmen are about being strong in close combat and support it with magic and characters. Herdstone Spam is one of the more competitive builds and I highly recommend you check out The Herdstone, Beastmen forums and pay particular attention to this guys thread here he really knows his stuff: http://s2.invisionfree.com/herdstone/index.php?showtopic=23980

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Thanks Hargus, couple follow ups...
* Harpies
Can units of 5 effectively hunt warmachines? I don't know how to effectively use 5 harpies except to duplicate the role of the raiders.
* Gor's
If I do 40/20, would you have the ambushing 20 be shields to preserve the ranks? I wouldn't think AHW would go as far for killing backline units or hitting a flank. I'll play test if I like the -1 ld or beast banner more.
* Shadow
Is it really just all about Miasma? Should I knock him down to a Lvl 1 scroll caddy?
* Razorgors
1 Chariot and 2 Razorgors sounds like a plan.
* Jabber
I love the model and I'm looking to the future. Old book, aging ruleset - they can only get better right?

Harpies can fill the roll of warmachine hunting with flying better also their Initiative is high and can do some mage hunting (ie) fly into a unit get into base contact with the mage and direct attacks at the mage)
Not really sure about the gor, a 6+, 6+ I don't see doing much, general rule of thumb is if you ambush something expect it to not show up or die, might as well go with AHW to do as much damage on it's way out or naked to make it cheap.
Yeah level 1 is fine really with shadow, you might get lucky though and get the S or T debuff but it's a level 1 you don't want to commit too much dice for a spell that can be used by the GBS
Haven't tried the Jabber myself I did see a list recently that used 2 with success, was an odd list, ungor with gorebulls in them to wrack up kills while the ungor kept them steadfast with ranks, even had a flying doombull, which I could find it.

Updated the list - now I need to proxy it and see if I like how it plays.
I decided to bulk up the gors and pull out the 206, and I liked the fencer blade/jagged dagger idea that I lifted from the Herdstone. Seems like a good way, combined with the death lore, to beef up my magic phase without using the herdstone.
I streamlined my chaff and filled up my core with Tuskgor chariots. I don't consider the Tuskgors as chaff since it can't march, so I have 6 units at 2500. I gave the Lvl 1 Shadow Hide so h'd be -3 to hit from BS shooting. Throw him in cover and forget about him - may even preserve his VP's better that way.
Attacking LD remains a theme - I doubt I can break steadfast, so I'll just make you roll on ld 5 instead.
I don't want to make the sacrifice for 40 bestigors - I'll probably run the 30 6x5 with the option to 10x3.

Looks better 6x5 on the bestigor is fine. And as much as I love razorgor swapping one for 5 harpies will help diversify your force. Also can't take magic armor on the GBS, talisman of preservation is the best option for defense for him.

I would just ignore the rare choices entirely. Save those 275 points and get more hooves on the field. Beastman are a decent fun army but your choices are rather limited and rare troop choices well are more for the leisure game I between. Not worth it to plan an army around. If you really want one of the beasties I would go with the ghorgon. He has chances to make his points back when the enemy leaves his cannons at home .
