You've probably heard, but Larry Hagman, best known for playing JR Ewing in the TV series Dallas has passed away at the age of 81.
It's difficult for me to convey to the younger members of this site how influential Dallas was in the 1980s. Only the beatles or the Rolling stones have come close in terms of cultural impact.
Previously, Texas was a cultural backwater, shunned by sophisticated types in favour of New Mexico and Arizona.
But Dallas changed all that. It made Texas respectable, it made the world want to be Texas, and Larry Hagman should be praised to the heavens for that.
JR, was smooth, devious and charming. Hard nosed, but tender. I'n running out of cliches!
Anyway, rest in peace Larry, that great oil well in the sky is waiting for you. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to find a dark room so I can weep

Oh, The first ever Soap lost someone important.
I never watched it, but its influential i know that.
I wonder what they will do for it in the New dallas.
Hopefully, with technological advances, they'll bring him back as a hologram
The impact of Dallas should not be underestimated. Like I said, nobody had ever heard of Texas before the show broadcast. The history books tell us that Texas is the only part of America that was freely given away by Native Americans. Contemporary sources tell of the tribes begging the settlers to take it off their hands

Which bit? The death of Larry Hagman, or the fact that Texas was a cultural backwater before Dallas was aired!

You keep that up, we're gong to start taking that personal. Careful Brit, with enough empty beer cans we can float a pickup truck. MIllions of rednecks headed your way with shotguns and cases of beer. Sounds like my high school graduation.
-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

Texas is one of the few areas of the world that would be a nightmare to occupy. When the UN invades America, they'd better have a good strategy for dealing with Texas!

Texas - rednecks with battleships, an air force, an aircraft carrier, and an itchy trigger finger.
