I've always seen it spelled Istvaan; what's with the 'special snowflake' poll answer?

Isn't it one of those "I don't care" answers written in a... um, unique way?

I've always spelt it Istvaan

I like to imagine the Emperor kills so many Orks that he ends up half buried beneath a pile of corpses, with only his head sticking out. A lone grot stumbles across him, and starts choking him.

Then Horus comes across the lone grot, somehow managing to kill the Emperor, and punts it into space.

It is a special snowflake because they are both right depending on what planet in the Istvaan system you are talking about.

Really? Ok. Must have missed that. Care to elaborate?

What I thought too. But than I saw some BL stuff spell it Isstvan (http://www.blacklibrary.com/horus-heresy/deliverance-lost.html)

Lexicanum.com (I know, not official, etc., etc..) also seems to prefer Isstvan (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Isstvan_system#.ULIFKYc3ZqF)

I believe it should be Istvaan but there are litterings of it being referred to as Isstvan throughout GW literature. Including in the HH series.

...as for Lexicanum on the Isstvan V page (which redirects from Istvaan V) it says the two names are alternative spelling and cites a reference to this in the second 3rd ed CSM codex, page 5. I don't have the book to check this but from the sheer amount of times the different spellings appear in official background it would appear the two are interchangeable and both are correct.

Ya its the Istvaan system but Isstvan III and Isstvan V, for example.

In 1989's Space Marine, it was Isstvan.

Over time, it has changed to Istvaan. I guess, technically both would be correct, and you get to determine what is more correct. The original spelling (Isstvan) or the current, common usage spelling (Istvaan).

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

The Horus Heresy Book 1 Betrayal has it as "Isstvan III".
