The Terranwing got another outing yesterday against my own Tau, who I'd lent out for a game.

It was a Dawn of War setup of The Scouring, so my Ravenwing bikes and attack bke became scoring, awesome!

A key for units - Hammerheads are both railguns with 2xBC. One of my dreads has TLAC and ML, the other has Assault Cannon and ML. Bikes are all melta'd up. Crisis suits are all fireknife configuration and my Tactical terminators have 1 Assault Cannon and 1 Cyclone.

And the initial setup. Key points on setup are the Stealthsuits infiltrating quite close to my lines and my Ravenwing contingent scouting forward. I had the first turn (thankfully).

So first turn. My Deathwing assault kicks off with the CC terminators dropping in a rather exposed position using the bike homer, but giving an urgent target, compared to the rest of my force as it slogs up the board. nothing much happens this turn as my Vindicator smokes up to be in position for next turn and I only have a few heavy weapons in range of targets. A Hammerhead gets glanced and the Tau lose a Crisis suit and a stealthsuit. I try and go for a couple of long range assalt moves, but roll lots of 4s, so nothing happens.

The Tau move up on the offensive and pound the CC terminators into dust Feel no Pain does not help me much against all that plasma death! A wound goes on the attack bike as well. Tau pick up First Blood and Slay the Warlord (but the rest of my force is untouched). Hammerheads both miss the Vindicator (which probably wins me the game...).

Terranwing turn 2, and some more effectiveness. Movement is mostly plodding foward as the Deathwing are wont to do. My Vindicator opens up, caps one hammerhead and damages the other's railgun. One Crisis team is finished off by shooting. Bikes kill a couple of fire warriors with their TL bolters and follow up into assault with no overwatch casualties. My dreadnought plows into the Stealthsuits in CC, where it stay for the rest of the game as I couldn't get throguh the power armour and the stealthsuits weren't strong enough to damage the Dreadnought Luckily the Bikes kill all but 1 of the Tau in combat and he holds in place to be finished off in the Tau turn!

Tau turn 2. Lots of maneuver and plinking, but not much damage this turn. The Assault Cannon dread loses a couple of hull points and the attack bike gets capped, for a VP. In CC the bikes indeed finish off the lone Tau and the Dreadnought and stealthsuits continue their slow dancing.

Terranwing Turn 3. More plodding and some effective fire control from the vindicator. Combined with my Terminators they take out the enemy command squad, Slay the Warlord for me! The bikes pile in toward the Broadside, bolter off a wound and then finish it off in CC. The Blue Danube continues to play for the Dreadnough and Stealthsuits. Other random firing caps a couple of fire warriors on the objective.

Tau turn 3 and the weight of fire is slackening! The Rail-less hammerhead and the crisis squad take one of the bikes off, the Warfish kills Tychus! (obviously he wasn't actually hurt, but just fell asleep in a drunken stupor) so no assault cannon no more. Close combat continues to grind.

Terranwing turn 4 and there is just some re-shuffling near the central objectives and starting to mop up the remaining Tau units. The Vindicator misses the Hammerhead spectacularly, but thankfully doesn'tt hit the bikes! The Bikes nip around the corner and clean up the remaining Crisis suits with some lucky rolls. Cause 1 wound each in shooting and CC and that is enough for them to run off the board

Tau turn 4 and its pretty much the last chance with the Warfish disgorging its troops near the 4 point objective. Thy open fire on the terminators, but it all plinks off the heavy armour this time. The warfish then moves flat out to block the approach to the FWs.

Terranwing turn 5 and night slams down on the battlefield. Not that it matters much as everything is at knife-fighting range... Swann's mob rush in and cream the Warfish in CC. The resulting explosion kills 4 tau and a Terminator. The dreadnought in cover does nothing of note, while the dreadnought in CC does even less. The Vindicator finally takes off the final hull point on the remaining railhead.

Tau turn 5 and the end of the game. Nothing much happens, but the FWs do get a Linebreaker point.

A fun game but I think the age of the Tau codex is showing. I was quite lucky that my Vindicator survived. If that had gone in Turn 1 it would have bene a very different game I think. The CC terminators are again wiped out to a man, but their sacrifice allowed the rest of my army to get into a decent position. If they had been left alone more then I think they would have casued bad damage, so it was definately correct to target them.

Final score was 5 to 4 in Terranwing favour with the Tau picking up First blood, Linebreaker, Slay the Warlord and a dead attack bike. The Terranwing also picked up Slay the Warlord and Linebreaker with a squad on a 3VP point to sneak a win. The 4 VP point was contested.

Great battle rep! And a fun match! If the game would had gone longer I probably would have gotten wiped haha.

I like to think I put up a strong fight for my first outing with the Tau. Can't wait to see the Terranwing more put together!

Hey Flinty I was going back over the rules for Vehicles and Skimmers (since you know I had barely a clue as to their use), and apparently you can't move flat out after disembarking troops, which wouldn't have made much of a difference.

Also, skimmers gain Jink whenever they move, so the HH's and DF should of had 3+ from 12 inches out due to DP and Jink. Not sure if that would have made much of a difference, but its good to know!

It is indeed good to know. I thought that was just fast skimmers. I hope it didn't alter anything too much! Certainly the DF was dead with all those power fist and chainfist hits Also I need to bring my camera net time for some in-game shots!
