Don't like those hills. The tiny legs/giant shoulders thing PP does makes their figs rather top heavy and you need Really shallow slopes in your hills or stuff will be falling over all the time.

I Really need to stop slacking off and build up the multiple terrain ideas I've got in my head right now...

Shallow slopes ain't that great in my mind. Better would be the stepped hill with shear sides, so you know for certain whether a model is on a hill or not.

I find those kind of hills can look weird on certain tables. It works well on sort of arid badlands terrain but can look downright bizarre in a grassy region. When dealing with slopes it's easy enough to resolve the ambiguity problem just by defining how clearly how the terrain works. My group tends to "If part your base is on the terrain feature, you're considered to be on the hill at it's defined height". Certainly this seems a bit silly sometimes when a model is 90% on flat ground ,has a silver of it's base on the slope and is considered to be elevated 3", but it's consistent and very clear for everyone involved. You could do it any number of ways "Your base must be completely within the feature" "Your base must be within the flat area on the top", so long as the boundaries and requirements are clearly defined ahead of time you shouldn't hit any ambiguity issues.

My biggest issues with sloped sides has been models falling over. Most of the plastics, and wide based metal models (like iron fangs, or a reckoner) are fine. Top heavy metals just seem to want to do backflips off the the thing.

EDT: Mind you our (current), hills are even slope-ier than the ones pictured by the OP, so I'm not sure the backflip thing would be an issue on those.

I see what you mean, the hills are quite "striking" I can't really describe it

That is a problem with wargame hills in general.

In order to have a slope shallow enough for models to safely stand on, the hill will either be so short its little more then a slight bump or it will be soo huge that it takes up the whole game board.

Wargames require some abstraction to function properly.

Its easier to have realistic city terrain then natural features(unless all your hills are desert tablelands)

The hill issue is easy to fix. Get some clear plastic cubes from a plastics company

for example:
http://www.tapplastics.com/product/plastics/plastic_rods_tubes_shapes/cast_acrylic_cubes/136

Then just put them under the edge of the base of a model partially on a hill. I have about a half dozen 1" ones for my table at home and that I carry with me.

Alternativly, have some extra bases for this situation. Place them where the model is and set the actual model to one side while it remains there.

I make these and have sold/traded some of them around the area.

I know they're not realistic, but they're pretty functional.

Here is a little experiment of mine. I am basing my Cryx (and hence my forest table) on the Thornwood. So here is a little part of a necrofactorum poking up.

I have since added flocking to the base.

This is a small mausoleum that I built for my city terrain. It is primarily for malifaux, but can work in a pinch for Warmachine. Warmachine just doesn't have good rules for going into and onto buildings.

I also have some gravestones that go with it. Behind it you can see some of the wall peices I picked up somewhere and a cool pre-painted fountain that i have had forever.

If you are building steampunk scenary I would highly, highly, highly recommend getting the Chemical Plant from Pegasus Hobbies. Shoot, I use the bits even for bases. It is a plethora of small, interchangable bits like those in my necrofactorum.

They also have some other really cool stuff available from their website and thru amazon.

<EDIT> adding some different types of hills and forests that I made. I have a variety of hills these were just two small ones that I made early on.

Found this on "Play unplugged's guide to scenery" I assume the minis are minions, but on closer inspection i don't think they are, regardless, this is an amazing piece of elevated terrian

Yeah, they can be found in just about any hobby store.

They come in packs of like 10-20 depending on the size. You bend the branches the way you like and then glue on the leaves.

Yup. The model in the back with a sword and gun is a ronin from Malifaux. The models are the same scale and terrain for one game works pretty well with the other. My "Urban" terrain is focused towards malifaux. and my woodlands terrain is focused towards warmachine. Though when my buddy who pays circle come over I always have my buildings out. "Sorry man, no woods and no time to switch it all up"

Ive finaly finished my khadoran buildings,

They were some old GW buildings i found, to get the snow look I sprayed white over the building tops to make it look like it had been snowing. To add to the khadoran feel I put some propaganda posters and flags up around the buildings

The rest of the pics can be found here in my Khadroan Buildings Page
