what tactics have you all found that work well with killa kans in 6th edition?

iv been using them with a few trukks and they seem to get ignored by heavy weapons which always try and take my trukks out.

they have been doing quite well against nids, and decent against MEQ for me

You have to stop using killa kans, there next to useless in 6ed.
the whole Ork codex is only good for allies now.
since the Big Mekk with a SAG and 10 grots are ok and lootas are the single unit that was buffed in 6ed

all ur base are belong to da

all the armies i used to beat b4 6ed

hahaha i disagree with you man.

experiences say otherwise.

besides that is in no way helpful if i wanted to know why orks suck and i shouldn't play them i would of asked that.

uhh, shoota boys were always better than sluggas
and now 60 overwatch shots hurt a lot more.

I don't have any Kans (the only Ork walker I have is a Deff Dread), but I honestly think taking them in a squad of 3 and using them as mobile cover for your boyz/trukks/battlewagons is the best thing to do with them. I would have a skorcha on each one (unless you want to go with Rokkit launchas and hope you hit something important).

Not sure if this is helpful to you at all, but at least it is better than saying, "Don't play Orks, they suck in 6th". The tactics you use also really depend on what army you are playing against.

yes that is a good idea although i find that they move to slow and my trukks just blast past them. but for battle wagons that would work decently or at least make them have to pick which one they are more afraid of to shoot at.

iv always wanted to try scorchas but im always timid that they wont ever y get into range or only get used for only the last turn or two.(cause i play against MEQ alot) but maybe ill try them against nids next time i play since nids usually wanna get close.

and im just looking for any tactics not against a certain army so any tactic against any army would be awesome.

everybody just seems to write them off and 3 av11 walkers for that cheap is not a bad investment at all in my opinion.

I agree completely. While it wouldn't take much to down them, there are still 3 of them that will potentially block line of sight to your more important units behind them.

Once I can afford to, I'll be picking some Kans up to maybe draw some fire off my Dread.

yeah i was actually thinking about kans with grotzookas blocking a dread with two scorchas so they walk up and rain down scrap metal and once they get close the dread pops out and melts people before rushing into combat and krumpin stuff and the kans stay back and fire over the dread all day.

That sounds like a lot of fun! Have some other units running up the flanks so your opponent has to make the tough choice of what to actually shoot at.

yeah i was thinking of running 3-5 trukks depending on how many points im playing then its either get blown up by my kans or get over run by the horde.

and then even if they choose the trucks then my boys can hid behind the kans while they hoof it into combat.

I ran Wazzie, plus 4 five-man warbikers with 9 kanz.

Kinda cumbersome list, but in about 5 games I've won them all... *shrugs* I'll keep tweaking it.

how did you use your kans and what where they equipped with?

that sounds like a list that would be wicked fun to play.

i love drive by shooting bikes or making little marines chase me while i pick them off. haha

My list... still trying to wrap around the 6ed rules.

The interesting thing, some opponent focuses on the Kanz, leaving the bikers unmolested, wrecking havocs.

Other times, the bikers got all the attention, leaving the Kanz close enough to get into CC.

It's an interesting blend... kinda klunky though and still trying tweaking this list.

Rokkits seems to work well... the key is to spam it out as much as you can.

I did grotzookas on one kanz in case I'd see some hordes. 6 cupcake sized templates per turn ain't nothing to sneeze at.

6th ed did mean kanz took a hit in survivability (hull points + allocation + KFF reach) , but a cheap set of DCCW's, bs3 Rokkits, and those glorious Grotzookas are just fantastic support weaponry.

Seriously, Grotzookas utterly vaporize horde units (a single unit of kanz with these can deal with a huge mob by themselves as the mob tries to push forward), and they put out enough blasts to deal some damage against MEQ AND lighter vehicles. In general, it's a pretty awesome generalist weapon.

As for using them in 6th, it's tricky since the Heavy Support slot got a lot more contested with the massive boost to Big Guns, points generally being sunk into things such as fliers, and oddly enough trying to keep up with an aggressive force considering vehicles got faster. They generally work best as a 2nd or 3rd wave unit, bringing up the rear of your push into the enemy - OR as a defensive measure against hordes, as newer wound allocation means they will seriously slow down any huge mobs trying to get to you.

The former will certainly help keep the fire at them, since the opponent will be heavily encouraged to fire upon the units making a more direct and faster charge towards their lines. I've also found that having at least two squads helps deter the opponent from firing at them in a weird trick of the mind - where one can be easily dealt with, two squads kinda blends them into the hordy vista and they focus on the more pressing matters, so possibly used best in aggressive lists?

yeah i have always loved grotzookas for infantry and even light armor some times.

i think ill try the rokkits next time i always forget kans have BS3 so a 50/50 for a rokkit aint bad for an ork i just wish they were TL or double shot or something.

I completely agree with wishing the rokkits were TL. That is kinda why I've just kept my AoBR Deffkoptas kitted with the TL Rokkits. I have a couple that have kustom mega-blastas, but that was just for fun.

Yeah, and the removal of No Retreat wounds have actually made melee horde armies a lot more durable.

In fact, aside from the Kan Wall lists, the Orks have been buffed in general in this edition. Overwatch helps them more than any other race, so does snap fire. Vehicles die to glances easier, and thus boyz mobs can kill most vehicles with impunity.

And they are the only race that has a cheap AA option that does not requires flyers of their own, with Lootas, who unlike the Aegis are also good in normal shooting.

Other units have also been HUGELY buffed, like Nob bikers, meganobs, burnas(which are pretty much impervious to assault now), etc. So let's cut down on the whining.

That being said, I would love to have a reason to use my 9 killa kans, so if anyone found a good use for them, please contribute. But in general, both Green Tide and Battlewagon spam lists work VERY well, and so do Nob bikers.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I generally found that upgrading those Rokkits to KMBs is worth it, but then again I do run into a lot of terminators. But that AP2 is also really good against vehicles too in 6th.

I usually run 1 Gozdooka squad and 2 KMB ones.

I played a Kan wall list if 5th that I liked a lot. Since 6th I kinda looked at Kanz and Dreads and saw a decline in there use over other units. I since have tried a couple lists with Kanz and Dreads and have found that they do pretty well. I recently tried a Dread Mob list with 2 Dreads, 6 kanz and some boyz in trukks. I came across the same thing a you did, that people try to take out the trukks first and that gives time for the walkers to move up.

I think that in 6th a lot of people are trying to gear up to go against infantry more than massive vehicles. Kanz are so cheap you can take a lot of them and because the come in squadrons they aren't a problem for first blood. Where as in 5th I ran big Boyz squads and lots of kanz and dreads, I think that list for 6th must have some fasters units in place of the big boyz squads. Bikes, Trukks, Battlewagons, things to move up field quick.

My advice for using Kans is: If you gotta use Kans USE EM. Keep them cheap pointwise and go all out (take like 9). You can even use trukkers and buggies to put pressure on opponent to keep him from shooting up the Kans. Spam them too.

If you need to get something done, better send two. (I learned that in my old Fantasy Orc animosity days.. heh)

You all must play real bad opponents.
In the games i have seen every Killa Kan is dead end of turn 1.
this is because everything better then a bolter can and dose take them out.
so the whole tau army, every GK and his dog, all flyers etcetera.
