Looking at the tzeentch psychic powers, especially "boon of mutation"

It seems that a character from the chaos daemon codex can actually roll on the chaos boon table.

The psychic power states that a single friendly model can be chosen for the target of this attack. So in theory, because chaos daemons are treated as friendly units, a character from the daemon codex could be the target of this power, and then roll on the boon table.

Any thoughts?

Nothing's wrong about it in the least. In fact it's kinda hard to pull off as you have to be within 2"

And you have to score the power. Tricky combo, I wouldn't rely on it.

Only thing against it that I can see is that the table refers to "the champion" gaining bonuses. Characters from Codex: Chaos Daemons are not defined anywhere as being "champions", as far as I can see; Characters from Codex: Chaos Space Marines, on the other hand, (mostly) have the Champions of Chaos rule that refers to the model as being "champions".

Though it would be hilarious (and depressing) to accidentally turn a Greater Daemon into a Spawn.

You have two rules mixed up. Champion of Chaos allows for charaters who kill other charaters to roll on the Boons chart. Boon of Mutation is a psychic power allowing a model to take a hit, then roll on the chart.

You have my point mixed up.

Every result on the Boon Chart (that I've seen, at least; I can't be bothered checking every one) states something along the lines of "The champion gains X". I see nothing in the rules that suggests that Chaos Daemon characters are "champions", so the bonuses simply don't have a trigger. CSM characters, on the other hand, nearly always have the Champion of Chaos special rule (Daemon Princes notwithstanding), so they do have a rule that suggests that they are "champions". Thus it works for CSM characters, but not for Daemons characters.

It's a tenuous argument, sure, but I'm just playing devil's advocate.

There's no "Champion" in the chaos book. There's Aspiring Champions and Champions of Chaos.

So by that logic no CSM character can benefit from boons?

(btw I see what you're doing Cheexsta, and agree)

FYI, Fateweaver is hilarious when turned into a spawn because of Boon of Mutation. : (

No it cannot. Daemon Princes are not Champions, therefore they only get to roll for the Gift of Mutation, which specifically makes one roll again on the two model-changing results.

Devil's Advocate on Dakka usually equates to tiresome.

Thousand Sons Aspiring Sorcerers routinely get this power. Sounds like a great way to augment an allied Daemon character to me.

Wouldn't a gift of mutation of the Daemon Prince be easier? And at least one more step reliable?

IDK, its seems RAW that the DP with all his gear could turn into a DP with no gear besides PA.

He can only ever roll when the game starts, and that power requires you to roll again when you get 64

He doesnt have the champion of chaos rule, stupidly.
