I also love the old models.

I converted mine to look like bikes, as bikes are just better than raptors.

But if keeping with the jump infantry I would run your 8 with 2 melta, champion with combi melta and lightning claw, MoS VotlW icon of excess.

I give them meltagun and meltabomb, then I use them to destroy ennemy's heavy support (land raider, monolith, domm ark...) early in the game. If they are still alive in the end of the game, you can hope them to be able to contest an objective.

I originally had my 6 raptors with 2x flamers and champion with dual LC, MoK, IoW. Hasn't really done much for me. I am thinking of doing what you guys are talking about. MoS, IoE and 2x Meltas. Pretty much make them tank hunters. I am also thinking of making them into a group of 11. Or maybe 2 groups of 6. Not sure yet...

Bikes > than raptors at the moment but they are still decent for what they do.

2 Meltaguns and a champ with a powersword. VotLW if you have the points but no marks as they are very pricey for not much gain. A player can then run them with his army (my personal choice) or DS and hope they survive until the next turn to charge something.

At the end of the day they are still just marines with fear and most times I'd rather have the armored protection of vanilla CSMs in a rhino with the same kit as they are cheaper, better protected, and can score.

I'm running with 2x Meltaguns, Plasma Pistol for the Precision Shots granting Boon rolls, as well as a Lightning Claw and Gift of Mutation if I have spare points.

Raptorcide: 5 x Raptors, 2 x Meltagun

Reserve, deepstrike hopefully near some armored target and hopefully kill it. If they didn't have a good counter unit near by, spend the next few turns popping around trying to get another shot somewhere else. Keep them cheap.
I played against a guy that used solo Oblits, DS raptors and DS termi units to compliment his many cultists units for scoring. He did really well and had the ability to answer most problems on the battle field.

If you want plas for the precision shot I would run a combiplas instead of a plasma pistol. cheaper, longer range, can double tap. If you are gonna take a lightning claw it doesnt matter anyway.

But then you couldn't assault with a unit that has no bolters. Instead grab a combi-melta, allows you to still assault, allows you to wreck a vehicle and assault whatever is inside. Or with precision shot instakill almost anything with 2+ wounds

the only guy with 2+ wounds that doesnt have 2+ LOS is a nob, and he still has 4+ LOS.
