Title says it all, but I like the looks of the LR and the idea of a 14 armor. Is it worth the points to carry my zerkers or would a rhino be a better cheaper fit?

I would say yes.
As a tau player anyway.
Any time I faced zerkers, they were either in a LR, or got shot too much before they get to attack and found themselves doing nearly nothing, if even reaching the assault.
The rhino is just not strong enough to guarantee they get all the way plus even if it does you are stuck one turn of not attacking, and footslugging is WAY too slow.
And its not like you cant pack some decent guns on the raider anyway...

A land raider does bring its own shooting to the table.
+ it might help protect any other vehicles by drawing anti-armor fire away.
Bear in mind that most armys will bring something to pop AV14, so its not a 100% gaurentee that your zerkers will be delivered into their army,

I wonder why berserkers are worth investing in to find fights quickly. It's not as if they are all that amazing in them.
They are quite alright with being a decent countercharge unit but not really main assault unit or worth wasting a hs slot on.

Chaos Terminators are still a more points efficient choice, but if you are running a Khorne lord with Axe, hells yeah, a bezerker squad can take anything out, it's scoring and it's cheap.
I generally prefer my Khorne lord with a jugg tho.
6th has generally upped the value of assault vehicles, simply because the competition no long works well. You CAN kinda make Rhinos work if you are careful, but at that point you might as well use the extra points to get a squad of CSMs on a rhino with meltas and Mark of Slaneesh + Icon of Excess. You'll end up possibly cheaper, with a squad that CAN shoot well rapidfire, and then are also better for melee.

Without a Lord, I prefer 3 mutilators in a LR. Give them MoK for Rage, and bam 15 attacks on the charge with your choice of a good variety of weapons. Man these guys hurt orks >.<

With supporting lord (daemon axe lord or kharn) without a doubt yes. Remember, treat the berserker unit as a fire and forget missile as once unleashed the unit won't survive the likely torrent of fire that will be brought down upon them. This is why a LR is valuable since it gives the survivability and thus time to choose that target for destruction.

170 point unit inside a 230 point vehicle?
Mutilators? Terrible unit.
15 attacks....5 terminators also have 15 attacks on the charge, with a variety of weapons, they can also take advantage of marks other than MoK.
I dont really see these guys eating up orks. They dont have a champion to challenge the nob, so they are going to be losing a mutiator a turn to the power klaw.

I'm actually against an HQ riding along. For me, it's too many eggs in one basket.
8-10 berserkers with a power sword or claw champion is plenty against all but the hardest units. Leave the plasma pistols at home, but consider the meltabomb.

TBH, I would love to try a large unit of CC chosen in a land raider. Imagine a full unit, with say 2 axes, 2 fists, and a sword on the champ with MoK charging out of a land raider? That would be pretty scary no matter who you are. (I'm also looking for a reason to field the chosen models from the DV set). Unfortunately I don't have a land raider :(

Get kharn and 9 zerks on a LR, that's all you'll need. I'm running a similar unit on my abaddon list.
Land Raider with Abaddon, 8 chosen, 2 fists, 2 axes, 1 melta and champ with dual lightning claws. Not the most effective unit but that way i get to use the chosens in the dark vengeance set. Also waiting on the FAQ to allow them to take a mark, then i'll mark the nurgle for extra resistance
