Now I've decided to drop into Orks, and the idea of Nob bikers riding around with a war boss seems like a lot of fun to me. But, how viable is the build for the war boss on the bike? Is it worth it, or just a points sink.

If I remember correctly, Ork bikes got a 4+ cover save right off the bat, which is pretty good, plus the +1 to toughness would pretty much remove any instant death problem you can have. and like the SM equivalent, they come with twin-linked guns too, and since your boss is a character, it can always be a good sniper unit as well.

Throw in a painboy for FNP shenanigans and another power klaw or two and watch everything melt away. Wazdakka Gutsmekk is an amazing biker boss as well. His dakkacannon can pop low AV easily.

He is insanely good for the price.
He's basically a monstrous creature that rides around on a bike tossing things into the sun.

I ran this today in a 1999+1 pt game.
Warboss,PK,Cybork,Atk Squig,Bike
5Nob Bikers, Cybork, 2x PK, 2xBC, Banner, Painboy
I had Eavy armor on the boss + Nobz but it just seemed a waste in the end.

After tallying up the points, it does seem awfully expensive.

You do realize that being on warbikes gives you a +4 armor save right? You didn't have to buy heavy armor at all to get the +4 save, you already had it.
Being on the warbike gives you +1T, a +4 cover save, a +4 armor save, and the twin linked dakkagun

Ork bikers are awesome...
Any variant of Warboss on a bike (including Wazzie) is awesome.
I wouldn't go maxing out the squads though.

I always felt wazzie was overcosted. His gun never hit worth crap (also didn't synergize well with the rest of the unit shooting) and he was a weaker warboss. While a regular warboss is higher str, has the TL dakkagun like everyone else (so he synergizes better) and is 40pts cheaper.
But yes, a Warboss on a bike is completely worth every point spent. Not to mention my fav tactic of breaking him off to surpise assault some tiny beat up squad while the rest go flay the big one my opponent was expecting.

Guess I missed the armor save portion. Oh well guess I'll need to find another place to stick the 25pts haha. Thanks for the insight, years of orks and just finding this out.

Yea Bosses on bikes is the gak. My best so far, was I tossed the bikerboss solo, into x10 assault marines led by a Chaplain. He took that whole squad down by himself. The only one that I had to worry about was the chaplain because he had a power maul. But he was KO'd in short order. The rest of that unit had to rolls 4s to hit and 6s to wound. It was glorious Now imagine if the choppa rules are correct for our next dex. Just give the boss a Bigchoppa, he will go at the same time with AP3 attacks at +2STR. So on the charge, 5 str8 attacks at AP3? Yeouch

How do people feel re fielding the biker boss solo (cheaper and easier to hide) vs with a biker nob squad (a big expensive blob of points but a whole lot more hurtyness)?

the bikerwarboss will get shot up, and cant score
The nobz can score, if you take the warboss

Biker bosses are sick. Give him a bike, cybork, PK and AS. Should be something like 150pts. I pretty much take one all the time unless im taking 2x KFFs. Plus nob bikers are scoring units if you take a boss and his T6 lets you absorb those ID hits you will probably be taking.
Solo bikerbosses are pretty good, but you need to hide him behind something until its your turn to move imo (if you go second). Then, send him after the biggest tank or threat they have (that you think he can take, especially good vs things like LRs and Russes which we have trouble with at range). Watch him krump it good

personally i find Wazdakka fun but not very practical. Regular bikes are too expensive for still being fairly easy to pop so you dont want to have a large mass of bikes riding around, also since they have issues with flying.
I prefer to run a warboss on bike w/ klaw, bp, and shoota/skorcha kombi (yes you can do that). The reason i run the kombi is while you cannot shoot the shoota and the dakkaguns at the same time, you have the option to use the one-time skorcha instead of dakkaguns which, especially with a damn BS2, is far far deadlier to most troops. Also good for Overwatch if they decide to deny you the charge (one of my friends has it fixated in his head that if an ork is close enough to charge him he should charge first even if its a bad idea). I dont have my biker boss built yet but i proxied him one time and yea followed by 2 4man biker teams w/nobklaws he can be a very nasty thing.

Id say never run the biker boss solo, for the bullet magnet thing. Ive found running him with some Koptas to be pretty badass. Then he gets hit n run, which is the tits on a biker boss, and the koptas are pretty cheap when compared to nobs

I may try that...
Do you outflank with them?
Do you use 1 koptas of max squads?

So far Ive only used max squad. But I could see you getting it done with x3 rather well. And I havnt honestly messed around with outflanking them. I should give that a go and see where it lands me
