Hello dakka dakka. So i was wondering i have been basing my models to look like they are standing of concrete that is on top of coals, since the models are standing on small pieces of plaster it raises them from the standard base.

Will this cause issues if i try and play a match? I have not played one yet since im still building up to a 2k army,

but if i roll in with models that are just a little taller then normal will people get bent out of shape and try and argue cover rules with me?

I mean i can always keep and extra model that's not based for measuring if its that big of an issue . here is a pic of the basing i do.

That should be fine, they're barely raised (especially compared to some scenic bases I could mention). If he were, say, a heavy weapons team, then it might be a problem though.

I don't think it would cause a problem. I've never had any complaints about my commander standing on an ammo crate. Had to get him high enough to be choking a DE model.

I think if anything it's a disadvantage for you since it generally makes it easier to draw LoS to your units.

I figured it would be in my opponents favor but well dont want to get in a pissing contest over something like 4mm of height difference.

This is why I never add to the bases of my play models.
Show models, sure.
Play models with things like this on them give people too many ops to call cheese.

In my opinion I never really understood this.

In this case, 4mm or so isn't gonna make a difference. It won't really give you an advantage for cover, and people will complain about LOS sometimes but to me if I can see you and shoot, you can see me and shoot. And even then, this guy is an Assault Termi so...you might actually be at a disadvantage is a very tiny amount of cases where they can see you but you can't shoot back.

tl;dr It's all good

If it's ever a problem, you always assume the model is not raised at all for LOS purposes.

Anytime you increase your model's profile, you actually make it harder to gain cover. So its a disadvantage.

This is entirely off topic, but I love that light blueish-green highlight color on that model. May I ask what it is?

Thx! let me think, ummm it was, *goes to GW site to find the exact name* Lothern blue, just pure lothern blue on the black base. I like it because it makes it pop really loudly and gives it a kind of specter look to it.

Dude, it's a TH/SS termie.

Unless you are getting 2+ cover somehow it's not going to matter much.

Same goes with regular marines, most times. Unless you are vs Ap 2 or 3 weapons, the cover doesn't matter.

As to the question, i don't think it would cause many issues. It's nicely based, but not brokenly MFA based or anything. I'd rather see that across the battlefield than the hordes of flat black bases with no basing.

Most non-tfg players should be fine with them

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

haha i know its a TH/SS termi i just picked him because it was the best model i had with the a base on it

I did not think many people would mind, but i find it would be better to ask the community then show up with fully based models and have them be like TFG.

If you do find someone that is not okay with it, just offer to treat them as if they were the "Normal" height.

if you find some1 who calls foul, you can treat the model as a non based model, but be warned....anyone being that anal about something so insignificant as basing is 90% probability a TFG player, and I don't suggest playing with those people. They are the type to WAAC and slightly skew the rules in their favor and rule lawyer you to death on every little thing until you just want to flip the table in frustration. Heck, im not even aware of any RAW rulings against basing to go off of, the rule of cool takes precedent so that TFG can feth off! Happy gaming
