Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

This is actualIy the first battle report i've remembered to take sufficient pictures for! So...to make it a habit, I'm going to start a story arc of battle reports, and try to have some fun along the way!
I'm starting the timeline after the DDWWC ended, on the search for components to finish the captured World Engine.
So without further ado, chapter 1

Necrons vs. Orks 1500 points

They’d done it…..finally. Ultimate power, at their fingertips, so close, but yet so far away. The Campaign on Masali had been short and brutal. The World Engine lay dormant in the webway, with entire fleets guarding it, Crypteks working around the clock to fix it. However…there was a problem. Several key components were incapable of being re-fabricated. They needed to be found. If he could find them first….and bring them back..he could re-activated it…He…Overlord Xerxius of the Bedouin Dynasty, inheritor to the Throne, could rule over all.
All it would take is a few baubles, a few more pieces, and it would be all over…

Y’lenod V. Long owned by the greenskins, long looted. It was a long shot, however, there are vaults that no greenskin, no matter how strong, nor how cunning, can open….perhaps…maybe, a part might be found.

Overlord Xerxius’ tireless metal body sat motionless on his command throne as his fleet descended upon the Y’lenod, this was delicate work, and would need a personal touch, with but a thought, his trusted cryptek, Teletrix brought him his warscythe, and he set his mind to the task at hand.
The landing had been uneventful, landing in the jungle highlands, away from Ork settlements had been tricky, but pattern matching-algorithms had concluded it was the best place to land.
Apparently, it hadn’t been quite accurate.

A short distance away, A massive warboss, on his kustom bike, along with two trukks of his biggest nobs opposed them.
The Overlord set the bait.
“Come now Ork, let me show you the folly of your ways.” Sweeping his warscythe menacingly
“Oy! You’z on MY PLANET NOW METAL BOY! Me and me boys is gonna KRUMP YOU RIOGHT PROPPA! WAAAAAAAAAGHH!”

And with that, the Orks Rocketed forward towards the Necron host

x10 Nobs x2 klaws, big choppas, attack squig, cybork, painboy, grot orderly
X10 Nobs x2 klaws, big choppas, cybork, painboy, grot orderly

The Mission, PURGE THE ALIEN
The Deployement: Vanguard Strike.
We rolled off to see who chooses deployment, I choose my side, and win the roll-off, electing to have him go first to see his deployment (a mistake) I fail to seize.

The Setup

The Necrons set up in a gunline, Wraiths ready to counter nobs, and immortals and barges covering all avenues of approach.

Turn 1
OY BOYS! GET TO DA CRUMPIN! WAAAAAAAAAAAGH!
The Orks Rocket Forward, Turbo Boosting all around.

The Necrons, in return, pop both trukks, dealing a few wounds to the nobs with shrapnel flying to and fro.
One trukk ramshackles right into my immortals, disgorging angry nobs.

My wraiths charge the far right nob squad, and the biker squad, dealing several wounds in each place, and taking several in return on the right. Neither one of us challenges.

First Blood- Necrons
Kill Point- Necrons
Kill Point- Necrons

Turn 2

The Orks ignore my immortals in the building, and head for the melee with the biker boss, the unit is being overrun, and he needs to support them.

The nobs charge my wraiths and Xerxius.
“Come Ork, You and I have business to finish”
“You’z sure roight about that! Bring your shiney ‘ead here to me klaw!”

I challenge Biker Boss Squigeye, and he accepts, becoming snared in Xerxius’ mindshackle scarabs, striking and wounding himself twice, and gaining clarity right before being struck down by the Overlord’s Scythe.”

“….Bah…Primitive scum, barely worth my time….a trophy nonetheless I suppose.” He said, holding the Boss’s klaw in one hand, before tossing it aside to deal with the next target.

The Wraiths finish off the bikers, and in return lose 3 to the charging nob squad.
Xerxius returns to the melee after finishing his challenge.

On the right, my wraiths are losing badly, a few good rolls on his part, and a few poor ones on mine sees my wraiths reduced to 3 members, and one is wounded.
My shooting units find good firing lanes, and I hope he closes out combats on his turns.

-Slay the Warlord –Necrons
-Kill Point-- Necrons
-Kill Point-- Necrons

Turn 3
All around, the melee raged on wraiths and Nobs trading blows, finesse versus brutality.
The problem was, the Orks were actually winning… The wraith wings were badly bloodied, their shattered forms littering the ground across the battlefield, while the rest of the army waited for clear firing lanes.
The Orks call a WAAAGH!
The wraith squad with Xerxius falls quickly, however he is Challenged by the NEW warboss, Brutius.
“BOYS! I’Z THE BIGGEST ORK ‘ERE, SO I’z da boss now! AND ME FIRST ACT AS BOSS IS TO KRUMP ‘DERE BOSS! WATCH AND LEARN!”
The Overlord shook his head, the fools would never learn, unless shown by brute strength it seemed.
“And you will be as short lived as your former….boss…and he was quite a bit bigger than you…show me what you look like on the inside scum!”

The two lock blades, as Xerxius’ mindshackle scarabs do their nefarious work. The Warboss is spared instant death by his own weapon by the psychic field of waaghh.
Xerxius manages to wound the warboss once.

On the other flank, on my turn, the wraiths fold in assault, and the Nobs, still mostly healthy, consolidate towards my Gauss Immortals, whom have formed a gunline in front of my barges to spare them power-klaw death.
Meanwhile, a Night Scythe Soars onto the scene, disgorging its squad of warriors into the middle of the map,

-Kill Point Orks
-Kill Point Orks

Turn 4
The Ork Tide Surges forward, crashing into the Gauss Immortals, whom between well trained overwatch, and skillfull bayonet use, actually kill 3 nobs...

... before meeting a immediate grisly demise to power klaws, the orks however, have been left in the open, part of a clever trap, they face down the guns of three annihilation barges, a night scythe, my tesla immortals, and long ranged pot shots from the warriors.

They barely had time to gulp, as the air literally splits with the crescendo of lightning and accompanying thunderclaps pounding the squad into dust, the single wounded remaining member begins running for his life, seeing his squadmates reduced to ash.

Meanwhile, during the Ork turn Xerxius continues to force the warboss to struggle against himself, however he fails to wound himself with the klaw. Xerxius manages one wound on his helpless victim.
“Your helpless despair is…delicious you lumbering oaf.”

The nob retinue scratches their heads, awaiting more action.
On my turn however, Warboss Brutius passes his MSS save, Xerxius takes one more wound off the boss, before he eats 3 power klaw wounds, and falls to the ground. The Warboss lifts he head to the sky a screams in victory
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
The nob squad shuffles towards my tesla immortals, and waits til next turn
However…the warboss catches out of the corner of his eye, the Necron Lord rise once more…he bellows across the battlefield.
“Come back coward! I’m not done with you yet!”

Turn 5
Brutius leaves his nobs behind, and charges right back at Xerxius, who eagerly awaits him.

The nobs charge into my tesla immortals, and multi assault my barge, however, I manage 3 sixes! Nine hits on overwatch, killing two nobs, the immortals hold in combat, with both their downed members returning to the fight. However, the barge is destroyed by a power klaw, and shrapnel sprays the nobs, causing additional wounds.

“Come beast, come to the slaughter!”
“Only thing gettin’ slaughter is you ya slimey squig!”

“I highly doubt that.”
As if on cue, a massive swarm of mindshackle scarabs blasts the Warboss, who falls to his knees, flailing wildly, however, he fails to injure himself.
Xerxius on the other hand, has no such qualms, and slices the beast’s head from his shoulders, and floats back to the safety near the warrior squad.

On my turn, the warriors spread out and run, while the Night Scythe flies around. An annihilation barge lines up the last remaining nob from the fleeing squad, and guns him down. Another shuffles for a good view of the other melee, which goes poorly for the Necrons, who fold to the brutish orks.

-Kill Point Orks
-Kill Point Necrons
-Kill Point Necrons

Victory Necrons
-Linebreaker Necrons
-Linebreaker Orks

Victory 8-5 Necrons!

And as night falls, the badly outgunned nobs realize retreat is their best option, and run into the jungle.

Xerxius gathered his grim trophies, taking considerable satisfaction in his scytheplay this day. Teletrix would need to be thanked for enhancing the potency of his mindshackle scarabs as well. He then proceeded to the tomb, its doors long unbarred, the jungle slowly reclaiming it.

Nothing remained, the sacrilege was wholesale, no stone unturned, no machine left intact, graffiti on the once proud walls. The previous leaders of the dynasty had been right to take all they had onto ships, sleeping in a tomb was no place for such as he, left to an unceremonious end such as this. For a being technically immortal, he did not feel as such.

“Teletrix…”
“Yes my Lord?”
“We continue our search elsewhere…nothing remains for us here.”
“…Understood…I’ll send scythes to extract you.”
“Once we are all off world…burn it to ash…a proper funeral I think.”

By the looks of the lists, the orks list is illegal. at 1500pt he can not have 3 hqs. Necrons won but the list is illegal unless I'm missing something. Other than that good batrep.

Awesome batrep but the necrons seem to have more points worth though as you didn't mention the wraiths in the army list.

the ork list hasn't got 3 hq's but it only has 1 troop as the warboss is making one of the nobz troop.

plus if the main necron lord for you batrep series is the destroyer guy he would be a bit more mental, seeing as all the destroyers just want to kill everything now.

He had two troop choices, with two ten man squads of nobs, if i'm not mistaken, and only two warbosses, one on the bike, one on foot after his truck exploded.
(Looked at the report again, i copy pasted poorly, it did read wrong, i've fixed his list now)
(I also fixed my list, I posted this really late last night, and missed a few things it seems, apologies)

I'll explain the destroyer lord thing later, don't worry about that, the overlord of my dynasty swaps forms as the situation demands.

Eh, it was a friendly game, we didn't talk about our lists beforehand, so he was free to bring his jets, however he wanted to run something quirky.
I almost brought a monolith, but I lost the list in-transit.
Well, hope you all enjoyed the read regardless. How was the fluff bits? I know the pictures aren't perfect, but I'll take more next time.

Tiny tripod = non-blury pics?
;P
Perhaps some close-up/at-eye-level shots as well (give it more of an involved feeling, rather than just observing everything from afar).

I'm not that familiar with it, but can any single dynasty be in control of the World Engine? It just seems that if it was truly that powerful, there would be a number of dynasties trying to fight each other off to control it in order to control the entire necron race. Anyways, I like the premise of your fluff. Keep it up.

You're missing a warboss in the ork list. From looking at the list right now, it is illegal with only 1 troop choice. You may want to edit that.

Great battle. Yeah, I think for orks to beat wraithwing crons, they need more greenskins, not more elite greenskins.
