Hey, I just recently started playing Chaos Space Marines, and i think my next purchase is going to be a Predator. I was curious if it is actually worth it to put sponsons on it, because I was thinking about using one of the lascannon ones to mod my Hellbrute.

It depends on what your list needs. If you need anti infantry, go the Dakka loadout (Heavy Bolter sponsons), if you need anti armor, the Autolas loadout is also good (Lascannon sponsons). Predators are still strong Heavy Support choices for Chaos, especially in a mech list.

I would put the lascannons on it. Its better than a dread for long range fire support. Dreads work better midrange because they threaten assault squads with their melee ability. Stick to multi-melta or plasma cannon dreads. Put all three lascannons on the predator. It can even shoot fliers with that loadout. If you don't have a better target.

Not really seeing the point of the dakka preads. Mostly because Str 7 and Str 5 shots dont really mix very well. Str 5 is anti-infantry, Str 7 is anti MC/AV11. It seems like a waste to shoot them at the same target.

This is particularly bad if you consider that you can get a squad of Autocannon Havoks for 20pts more, who FAR outshoot the dakka pred, and dont waste shots on suboptimal targets. The Chaos codex just generally have more efficent AV11 and anti infantry options than the dakkapred.

I DO love the Lascannon preds though, as for 15pts cheaper than a Lascannon Havock squad, they give you a bit less shooty for a lot more mobility/survivability, and some of the most cost effective anti tank the codex has.

Autolas preds I could see, but the problem is that that AP2 and +2S does make a difference, especially in 6th. It again suffers from not being able to use his weapons optimally against any target.

And yeah, the hellbrute does seem to do better with the multimelta, in my experience. Instead of spending those points to give him lascannons, give him a heavy flamer instead. It makes quite a difference, I find.

Exactly this. Reaper AC also works well on brute.

Instead of buying a Predator:

Buy a Rhino, magnetize it, buy the turrets and sponsors from a bitz site. Gives you a multipurpose vehicle for less money.

I use laspreds in my army sometimes for tankbusting and dakkapreds just for fighting Orks and Tyranids. I use Rhinos in just about every game, however, and really like being able to switch between them.

I have been putting dirge casters on my rhinos where the turret should be. Kind of difficult to put both on, but Iguess I could manage

Had to account for that once, do so by popping out the plate where the dirge caster is mounted, magnetizing the joints for the doors, and getting a replacement plate for bitzbox for the turret. Cost me about $2 and some time.
