Subject: 2 unrelated questions for Chaos

I was thinking about two different things and I don't remember them being answered elsewhere:
1) What is the most effective mark for obliterators? It came down to nurgle's or tzeentch's and they both have disadvantages and advantages but I don't which one, if any, comes out on top (even by a little).
2) Is veterans of the long war always worth taking on standard chaos marines (chosen, normal marines, havocs, raptors, bikers, that's all I can think of), or is it situational? The increased LD looks really good and it looks cheap enough, but I'm not experienced enough so I would like to know if it is really that cost effective or is it situational.

1) I prefer the Tzeentch one. 2+/4++ is pretty sweet. Nurgle is good as it keeps Lascannons and missile launchers from causing instant death on a single wound.
2) I plan on taking the VotLW in practically every unit I field. I don't care about Hatred (Space Marines). It's simply for the leadership. Going from 9 on the Sgt and 8 on the grunts to 10 and 9 is a pretty big improvement for 1-2 points per model (squad depending). However, that's about the only upgrade I'd use as I'm running a Tzeentch army.

1) Nurgle. Always Nurgle. Making obliterators immune to getting instakilled with Lascannons and harder to wound by mass of small arms fire. By far the best choice. Tzeentch is not particularly worth it, as your Oblits should be in 4+ cover most of the time anyways.
2) VOTLW is good, but obviously works best against SM armies. In an all comers list, I try to get it on any unit that's NOT running with a Lord, and is going to get into melee AND does not have fearless already. That's actually a pretty small list, but when it does see play it's worth it.

1) Most cover is 5+, not 4+. But otherwise, I agree that Nurgle is a good upgrade. Khorne and Slaanesh don't pair up with your shooty Oblits at all.

I tend to think nurgle is better than tzeench for oblits, with the other way around being true for terminators(although the nurgle lord is better to join them, so go figure.)
VotlW goes on anything that is going to see combat(by design in my list)
so those CSM troops with pistol and CCW, bikes, combat raptors. It also goes on chosen and anywhere it is cheap.
That said I usually leave it off the rest of my squads unless i have the points.

For Oblits, Nurgle tends to be better but I think Tzeentch gets special mention on minimum terrain boards or when you're deepstriking.
As for VotLW, I take it over ubergrit any day of the week. Unless you're running 15+ man squads, it's a better deal than IoV.

Nurgle is a great mark for Obliterators, but I don't always take any mark at all. It's not always worth it when the unit is already that good.
VoTLW is great against SM armies and decent against most other ones. I play smaller numbers of units and can usually get Ld10 from my HQs, so it's not as important for me.
