I run 2 5-man CSM squads with MoS and IoE currently, usually bringing a CL with the Black Mace along for the ride.

They tend to do well, usually hitting opponents very hard on the charge and surviving well into the later rounds of the game. I am getting the sense that they are over-performing, however, since there are those games where they don't actually do anything and ones where they simply tarpit opponents for most of the game. Beginning to feel like their value would be magnified with the addition of more troops, and considering making them into 10 man squads for all those extra attacks.

Before I spend $150 on biker models, what do you think about 10 man biker squads? Good for the points or too many drawbacks to deal with?

just 5 man squads? if you are going to pay for the icon, you want to have 10, preferably 15-20 guys to take advantage of the fixed cost.

as for the bikes, I love them. My army is now centered around a 10 man squad with plasma, IoE, VotlW and a chaos lord tooled out. With the character it is 400 points, but tough to take down and very fast.

Well, 10 Bikers are overkill. Since I'm playing a Slaaneshi army, I generally include one squad of 6 Bikers led by a Lord on bike.

I find once you put the CL in there the squad becomes a bullet magnet. Sure I am glad that they are shooting my T5, 3+/5+ then 5+ models that cost 21 points. The margin cost of adding 4 more bikers is 84 points and I want them to fire everything they have at them.

I actually just kinda ran into your same situation just the other day. I ran 1000 point list.

Chaos Lord (155 points)
- MoK
- AoBF
- Sigil of Corruption
- Bike

CSM x20 (350 points)
- CCW for boltun
- IoV
- MoS
- Power Sword (Champion)

Bikers x10 (280 points)
- MoN
- Melta Bomb (Champion)

Predator (115 points)
- Heavy Bolter Sponson x2

Predator (100 points)
- Twin linked Lascannon

This list worked well in the game I played it. However I am thinking about exchanging the HQ and the bikers out for a 10 man of Noise Marines with sonic blasters. Huron for the infiltrate, an extra bonus if I can get the 20 man unit of CSM in too. The amount of money needed for the bikes is steep. Before I am sure they are the best, I'm gonna see if the Infiltrate can make up for the speed the bikes bring to the table.

so your lord runs alone? what is to stop people from boltering him to death?
Also you only have 1 troops, so your list is illegal and you can only claim one objective

My aplologies you would have to break up the 20 man into two units. The HQ has a bike so kinda self explanatory where he would go?

Problem with him joining the Biker squad is that they have different Marks.

The lord has MoK, your other units have MoS or the bikes have MoN, so he cannot join either one of those units.

Is that a 5th ed rule that they can't join because there isn't anything in codex I've run across that says otherwise

Well hot damn guess he would have to lose the axe and go nurgle or bikers go Khorne. Thanks for pointing that out.
