What is/are the power loadouts for Ironclad dreads? Im thinking about running a couple for a drop pod list, and was wondering what the optimal upgrades are? Like: do you equip assault launchers? what arm mounted weapons to take? Is it better to keep both arms or take a chainfist/bolters? Thank ya kindly!

Best option I can think of is two CCW and a Lucius pattern Drop Pod. Unload with flamers/Melta then charge in on the turn you land and destroy a tank or chew up infantry

If you're taking FW stuff.

just have the MG/Flamer possibly 2x HKM in a pod

Chainfist: in 5th I would have said seismic hammer, but now that AP 2 already gives you +1 on the damage chart I like the double-tap for pen with the CF (very nice when there's a monolith/LR to beat up)

Heavy Flamer and Melta-gun: gives you alternatives

Grenade launcher: let's you beat stuff to death before the fists/hammers hit back (if assaulting through cover)

2 HK missiles: optional, but nice to have for some range

DCCW, Chainfist, Melta Gun.

In a Pod. Never run them on foot.

The only issue with the chainfist is that it takes away your extra attack. And when you only have 2 attacks base, its kind of hard to kill stuff. I would go with 2 DCCW, meltagun, and flamer. Keep it cheap. Put him in a pod and wreck havoc.

The Chainfist is still a DCCW. I don't see why it'd take away your extra attack.

(See the FAQ.)

I don't really see the point in taking a Chainfist when a Seismic Hammer makes all of the Dread's attacks essentially AP1 when he rolls on the vehicle damage chart.

EDIT: Nevermind, it's a free upgrade. Might as well give him a chainfist. You do lose the underslug weapon though.

It's about the extra D6 penetration. You don't get to the dmg chart if you don't pen in the first place. On top of that the PF is ap2, so it gets +1 as is.

You don't lose the Underslung weapon either.

Well, f the chainfist still give an extra attack these days, then there really is no reason not to take it.

I would favor double flamers though. that way you can flame infantry to death, or assualt a tank-as an assualted tank is pretty much dead anyway.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Not sure about the duel flamers

Usually a dread will just tar-pit infantry now though. Even with the flamers I can't see the Ironclad doing much to a huge unit of boys or nids.

For MEQ they'd be great, but then there aren't too many of them to kill in the first place

I prefer the Melta as it gives you a chance to one shot a tank and then assault a second one if you get a good role

Are you sure? I'm not doubting you but the chain fist doesn't specifically state that it has a built in weapon like the hammer does.

I thought so too, until I saw the Ironclad with chainfist on GW's site:

The Chainfist option is the only option where a DCCW is getting replaced and it doesn't explicitly mention the built in weapon going away.

I always go for the hammer. Str10 at worst is at a 4+ to glance, and only 2 vehicles in the entire game have rear armor 14.

Rear armor is almost always 10, 11, or 14. With 11 and 10 being most common.

So the chainfist is pointless most of the time.

But the Seismic Hammmer gets +2 on the damage chart(1 for being AP2, 1 for being a Seismic Hammer) so thats a 50% chance to wreck any vehicle on a pen. With 4 attacks on the charge, hitting on 3s, and assuming a Landraider, thats averaging one pen roll a round. Potentially more.

Some, but Str10 attacks are still plenty and I probably wouldn't engage it with my Ironclad if I had a choice.

I use Ironclads as a tank hunter and small infantry killer. I send it against targets that have little or no hope of harming the walker in return.

Wargear, Chainfist.

combat weapon that rolls 2D6 for armour penetration.

For the Chainfist FAQ.
