Anyone try out a Deploy Nothing IG?
I proxied 30 Ratlings a few days ago, and liked it. So I was kicking around the idea of deploying nothing during normal deployment, thanks to Creed, Harker and Al'rahem.
Combining the effects of the flyer with infiltrate and must outflank makes it possible to run a good sized army with nothing on the table.
Here is how it shakes out: (this is the 2500 point single force org plan)
Creed, astropath, master of the fleet, chimera, unit is upgraded with krak (had 5 points to blow). Creed makes his own unit scout and uses it to outflank.
Elite:
3x10 Ratlings
Troops:
2x Vets, 2 melta guns, heavy flamer (each rides in a vendetta)
10 vets, harker, 3 grenade launchers, heavy bolter, upgraded as forward sentries (so scout, move through cover, camo cloaks, stealth, and infiltate, all for 180 points)
Platoon: **Out Flanking**
Al'Rahem, 4 grenade launchers, krak grenades (had 5 points to blow)
5x PiS with meltagun, krak grenades, sarg with power axe
1 Commissar with power axe
2x Special Teams, 3x meltaguns
Fast Attack:
2x Vendetta (or Valk with pods)
Heavy Support: All in Normal Reserve.
2x Single Medusa with Bastion Breechers (needs the range to be dangerous)
Squadron of 2 Russes
The slight melee slant is to try out Creeds special order that gives Furious charge and fearless.
I have 4 drops that are not in reserve (3x10 ratlings and Harker vets, which all infiltrate)
I have 12 drops that don't count towards reserves (8 squads in Al'Rahem's platoon, both Vendettas, and both units riding in the Vendettas)
I have 4 drops in reserve that do count (Russ Squadron, Medusas, and Creed choosing to outflank with his scout movement)
So, Despite having ~135 infantry and 7 vehicles, I place nothing on the table during normal deployment.

Yeah, in 5th edition. In 6th if you deploy nothing you automatically lose the game. And if you deploy token weak units like a single veteran squad and ratlings you probably lose the game before your reserves arrive.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

You can't even do it, as you can only reserve half of your units, rounding up and ignoring things that have to be in reserve. Al'rahem and the vendettas must go in reserve, so you cold only reserve half of the other units.

Except that Harker and the 3 units of Ratlings aren't in Reserve, so they allow him to reserve 4 units. If someone can kill 3 units of Ratlings infiltrated into area terrain, and a unit of Veterans (possibly with camo cloaks) infiltrated into area terrain, all of whom will probably Go to Ground for a 2+ cover save at the first sign of trouble, in the first turn, he's screwed. But not much can put out enough long range, Ignores Cover firepower to do that.

Thanks for reading past the first sentence. Yes the list is legal, and puts 40 guys with stealth (10 of which also have camo cloaks) on the table before the 1st turn, via infiltrate).
I was curious if anyone tried anything like this. I was guessing the general dislike of Ratlings make it unlikely anyone has any experience with a 6th edition IG ambush.

It seems pretty straightfoward, though I'd probably give Harker's crew sniper rifles rather than grenade launchers for the better range, since you're unlikely to Infiltrate them aggressively since one jerk with a fast moving flamer or two will butcher them.
