Hey guys, so today i bought $700 retail of paint today from my flgs who was getting out of selling GW. I made an offer and scored all of his old GW paint. Most of the foundation paints have the pigments separated and they are a little goopy. I have been playing around with stirring like crazy and adding water. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make these paints less goopy?

Thanks

I stopped painting for awhile and when I came back the same thing happened. I just added a little water and shook it up for awhile.

Add a little lahmian medium. It works way better than water because it does not dilute the paint very much like water can also it tends not to dry out again as quickly.

What you're doing right now? Yeah. Do it more.

In all seriousness, that should be all it takes. Unless they've dried and hardened, they're likely salvageable with nothing more than water and elbow grease, although some folks might recommend tossing in a bit of an additive or two (matte medium and the like).

I was given an ancient pot of Skull White that had completely gelled - it could be stirred, but even if you turned the pot upside down and shook, it wouldn't shift unless prodded directly. Behaves just fine, now, and all it took was adding a few drops of water at a time while stirring. It took a few minutes, mind you, but it worked a treat.

Distiller water, liquitex flow aid, matte medium. I have 15+ year old second edition paint pots that are in fine condition due to hear additives (also second Ed paint pots were quality in that they sealed really well)
