What a bastard.......This makes my blood boil.

A 30-year-old man from Bedfordshire, whose partner filmed him repeatedly beating the family dog before reporting the attacks to police, has been jailed.

Konrad Kocjan, of Hertford Road, Bedford, was sentenced after the court saw footage of him whipping the dog and hitting its head against a wall.

District Judge Kenneth Sheraton described the attacks as "gratuitous" and "purposeful".

Kocjan was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison at Luton Magistrates' Court.

District Judge Sheraton added: "I have to say that I am no enthusiastic lover of animals and, from time to time, I see cases of ill treatment come before the court.

"This is, in my view, one of the worst I have seen."

'Irresponsible and wrong'

The court heard an expert who examined the film of Kocjan's female Staffordshire bull-terrier cross found the attacks would have caused "physical and mental distress and suffering", but that the dog was left with no long-term wounds.

Parminder Matharu, for the defence, said his client accepted the attacks had been "irresponsible and wrong".

The dog had caused injuries to Kocjan's son, Mr Matharu said, but the court heard there was no medical report to substantiate that claim.

Kocjan was told that depending on his behaviour, he would be released from prison halfway through his sentence. He was also disqualified from keeping animals in future.

What makes me sick is that Kojcan will serve a possible 9 weeks in prison. It's just not good enough I'm afraid. I guess it boils down to this: If you can't handle a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, don't fething get one as a pet.... I'm a huge lover of Staffies, and seeing stories like this makes me sad as it just perpetuates the 'Staffies are evil' myth, peddled by red tops and the Daily Mail in this country.

If he did that to a dog I can't see good things coming for his partner that filmed him and then reported him.

Yeah, as a town it does seem to breed its fair share of muppets dosnt it? No offence intended Goliath. Still, it's no worse than any other provincial town, it's just a sign of the times. People buy Staffies because they think it make them look "dead 'ard innit?", without realising the amount of care and attention you need to give them. Let alone the sheer stubbornness you need to be an owner of that particular breed.....

All he did was beat up an animal. It's not like he hurt anyone's feelings, jeez.

I hope this is the sarcastic comment that I believe it is.

Otherwise, I'm sad at you, Testify. Really sad.

For some reason I misread Bedford and thought you're talking about the town of Bedrock from the Flintstones.

I just find it irritating that despite the large number of awesome stuff thats come from bedford, every news article about it that I've seen for the past year have been about how someone from Bedford has been stupid, cruel, or a horrific human being (or all three).

If that's the case he should be sent back to where he came from. Let somebody else have a chance.

Smash his fething head into the wall a few times. You beat up on a smaller defenseless creature who depends on you and doesnt understand why you hurt it, you are a pathetic coward and straight up deserve to get everything you gave to it. feth this guy and feth a useless legal system that only gives out a slap on the wrist to these people.

I would hardly characterise a Staffordshire Bull-Terrier as 'defenceless', but yeah, this guy's a dick for abusing his dog.

18 (4 and 1/2 months) weeks is a long time, I think even if his sentence reduced to 9 (2 and 1/4 months) weeks I think he'll get the message, that's a long time to be locked away in a small room.

The dog fortunately didn't suffer any long time injuries from this so I think the sentence is appropriate.

It would be even more appropriate if some inmate or other takes a fancy on Mr. pretty-boy Konrad and takes him for his bride!

There are certain types of socially insecure individuals who utilise that particular breed as a substitute for a crocodile on a leash, so to speak, leading to them having something of a reputation; whether the animal's actual nature is true to it's intended purpose is debatable however.

This guy will probably end up having a laugh or be laughed at by other inmates.

Not necessarily Polish (although there are a lot of poles in the UK - and Canada - where they all seem to be plumbers).
