Greetings all,

I'm back on the boards after about a year away from 40k to get some help with an upcoming doubles tournament. Went last year with a poorly painted and poorly planned GK + BA team with my friend and overall didn't feel great about our preformace.

This year, we're planning well in advance (we've got 4 months before the event) to put together a strong force with a unified paint scheme we can be proud of.
As I haven't played in a long time I've got a GK force that has been collecting dust, while my friend has switched over to CSM (his armies have always looked like chaos when he paints them and he has been accused of running chaos models as other armies before so this is definitely the best fit for him).

The tournament we're playing in is doubles with each player getting 1000 points to make their own list. No allied units allowed and teammates may not share special rules or transports between their separate lists (so there are also no restrictions on which armies you can run together).

Our only personsal restriction is that at least 1 army is going to be CSM and the other must be a MEQ type (as we have probably 4500 points of MEQ units between us). Anything goes for us to plan and build so long as its CSM + marine army (double CSM is an option too).

So what do you think is the best WAAC double marines combo we can run that includes CSM? Feel free to post unit ideas and and strategies if you'd like to start a discussion on them.

Thanks in advance dakka.

For Chaos;
15 Spawn
3 Mauler Fiends
Typhus
Lots of Zombies

Then just fill the gaps with your other army.

I guess it's worth mentioning that we can't build an army like that due to tournament restrictions. Wasn't going to go into every detail to keep the post shorter but it might be worth mentioning.
List restrictions are as follows (per player):

1 HQ
0-1 elites
1-3 troops
0-1 fast attack
0-1 heavy support

shared unit restrictions
between both players, we can bring the following extra units:

0-3 troops
0-1 elite
0-1 fast attack
0-1 heavy support

What this means is that we have these extra list slots open to us as a team, but any slot I use restricts what my teammate can take. IMO its actually a really cool rule that adds extra challenge to the list building part of the game that I enjoy.

Looks like you need to field something which can really take advantage of the troop choices and work around the lack of HS/FA/Elite slots.

SW would be a good army for this - pack the troops out with GHs for cheap 3+ spam and the HS can be filled with LFs which will work great when you take into account split fire - effectively making them 4 HS slots...sorta.

Or you could team up with mech vet guard (I know you said marines but still...) which have great troop choices too and would be able to fill your gaps in special weapons. Again, they're another list that can take advantage of the limited HS slots by squadroning artillery or LRBTs - 2 Basilisks and a Manticore with a chimera spam would work really well with chaos IMO.

Both of those would open up the extra FA and Elite slot for you, the chaos player. Which means helturkeys!

If you wanted to use the HS slot for chaos since they have great HS if I remember rightly, then maybe GHs. I'm not as familiar with their codex though.

Maybe mech BA could work. 2 Baal preds for FA, Vindicator for HS and another vindicator and pred from the Chaos would be a fearsome AV:13 wall to allow rhinos and razor backs to move forward.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...
