So some of you may have seen that I'm trading off a large chaos force that I just won't have time to build and paint, for a painted force.

Right now my 2 main options are Vampire Counts or Imperial Guard, both painted to a high standard.

My current army that I'm working on is Salamanders siege force, so I don't currently have a playable army, hence wanting to trade 1 of my 2 projects out for something playable.

I'm torn though, which to choose.....On one side, VC offer me an option into Fantasy, but I'm curious if I want to go that route as I haven't played a game since the newest edition. On the other, I get a nice IG force that I'd probably NEVER do myself, and get a good allied force for my salamanders.

Your thoughts?

I'd go Vampires. Say what you will about WHFB as a game, but the armies, especially the Vampire Counts, are stunning. Way more beautiful than any 40k army.

In my opinion that is.

I'd say do VC. That way you'll have an army in both systems and can play either one as a pickup game when you visit your FLGS instead of standing around sad because everyone is playing Fantasy that day.

I'm kind of surprised how many people have voted for those Cadian models over the VC range.. do people not care about the aesthetic quality of their miniatures?

I do, I just don't care about his

If he wants Cadians that's cool with me. I'm getting ready to entirely redo my army though just because I hate the look of the newer Cadians though.

Are they that bad? I know that some of their facial expressions aren't great, but overall the sculpts and poses are pretty good I thought. I think I'm going to go with the IG, since not that many people play fantasy at my LGS, and it'll be nice to have a full allied army to my salamanders, and will really reinforce their siege style of composition that I use(i.e. allied contingent w/ HQ squad, demolition vets, and leman russ)

They're not bad, and if they're already finished they'll probably look pretty good.

What I hated about them was that they were very boring to paint and assemble. They have a very limited variety of looks on the generic troopers so its very tedious and boring. it's why I'm doing a new regiment, because I hate assembling and painting the plastic cadians.

I voted Vampire Counts, for the reason Breotan gave (so you have an army in each system), but also because it's (as others pointed out) an amazingly beautiful range of models and also has one of the better balanced books of 8th, with practically everything having a use and being hard to accidentally make an army that won't work. It's an all round winner of an army.

The army you listed is also very good. It gives a great base with all those Skeletons and Zombies and some good flavour units (including the hideously expensive Blood Knights, meaning you won't have to buy them later). Adding to that army will be easy, and you've got the boring part (Skeletons) done.
