hi i'm new to warhammer 40k. im hopin to build a Grey Knight Army.

was thinking of playing a TAC semi-competitive to competitive list with dreadknights and paladins or terminators.

then either filled by gkss or purifiers. but it's difficult as either everything in GK sounds viable or i have crap reading comprehension and confused.

HQ- 245 points( no idea)
Terminator squad (10 man)/ 2 psycannons, psybolt, 4 hammers, 6 halberds –
Strike squad (10 man)2 psycannons, 2 hammers, psybolt
Rhino/ dozer blade, hk missile
Nemesis Dreadknight/ heavy incinerator, teleporter -
Nemesis Dreadknight/ heavy incinerator, teleporter -

sth like this i saw online and hoping to find another 500 points worth of units.

would really appreciate any assistance at all.
lists, rough concepts, guides or even strats etc etc

thank you.

Strikes are better than Terminators in almost every way and/or situation. If I were you I'd buy Coteaz, two Dreadknights, and just spend the rest on PAGK boxes.

I'm not a GK expert or even player, but I was under the impression all GK units used the same kits. Isn't there basically two kits - GK space marines and GK terminators?

Seems hard to go wrong here if you're not into henchmen and stuff.

Grey knight terminators are just okay. They are not that great, but not bad either.

If you want to use terminator models, then probably the best way is to go with Paladins. They have more wounds, more psycannons, what more do you want?

Usually Paladins go into a Draigo-star type army. Draigo+Paladins+[Maybe a Librarian depending on points] are a giant brick that is very hard to kill. It is also one of the lowest model count armies you can have for 40k, so it is good for someone who travels.

Strike squads are really good (10 dudes, 2x Psycannon Psybolt ammo), Most people would say better than normal Terminators, but you will need a lot more models to a make a list like that work.

Purifiers are usually best in transports, so if you do not want to go that route, then I would leave them behind.

Here is what I recommend that you could buy

Draigo
Librarian
Coteaz
2-3 Boxes of GK Terminators (you will not have enough psycannons for paladins, but maybe you can be a little creative there)
2-6 boxes of GK in Power Armor (even numbers will give you 10 man squads)
2 dreadknights
1-3 Dreadnoughts
1-2 Storm Ravens

Basically this shopping list would give you multiple options for running your list.

You can run Draigo and Paladins, supported by a couple strike squads and knights
You can run all strike squads with Coteaz and more dreadnoughts and stormravens

If you just want to run Draigo+Paladins then you could cut down the shopping to

Draigo
Libby
2-3 Terminator Boxes
0-4 Strike squad boxes
2 Dreadknights
1 Dreadnought

Buy list IMO:
1x Terminator box to build inquisitor HQs and a no name Grand Master
1x Storm Raven
2x Dread Knights
1x Coteaz
After these just go infinite on power armor boxes.

I need to return some video tapes.

ohh. my hobby shop owner was saying paladins were better previously and that termies are a better option now. but from my reading online appears paladins are still well respected. i guess i was being fooled >_<

are they still good in a 1000 point level game?

so either coteaz + ndk+ gkss
or
draigo+lib+paladins?

whats the main diff?
and for what its worth my area has a ton of necrons.

Paladins were better previously, and still are. But Strikes are better than both.

At the very beginning of 6th edition, there was a rules exploit that made paladins way better than they should have been. (LOS for the entire unit, as they were all characters)

Currently they are good, but they do not break the game.

Paladins are too expensive for a 1000 point game. 10 of them plus Draigo is around 850 points, and you will want some points left for supporting units. That said, you do not need a lot of models to make a 1500 to 2000 pt paladin list.

1 big Paladin deathstar or Several Strike squads can make up the core of your list.

Good supporting units for with core include:
Dreadnoughts for long range shooting
Dreadknights and Storm Ravens for another durable, fast moving threat

Like everyone said, just get a pile of Power Armor Grey Knights boxes. Everything else is just flavor.

Sometimes, you just gotta take something cause the model is freakin cool...

While Psyflemen were very important in 5e, in 6e I'd only use them if there were lot of other vehicles on board. Having single AV12 (non-flyer) vehicle is easy kill for enemy AT weapons.
