I was wondering if it was possible to create a Rhino that would have a small speaker inside of it, and a switch you flick to play the song Bee Gees - Staying Alive. That alone would suffice, but flashing lights emitting from inside of it would be a good addition. Incase any electrical engineers/hobbyists are around, how would one go about building such a glorious contraption?

It should be relatively easy. Rhinos have a lot of nice boxy space inside for fitting batteries and wires. Go and check out the do-it-yourself kits you can by from electronics retailers for kids to make flashing lights and see if thre is a recordable sound version. Just try and make sure that if there are any curcuit boards that they will fit inside the tank.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

My god, I hope it will really be that easy. My Landraider shall play Disco Inferno by the Trammps. Can anyone point me to such a kit? Not an english native and not sure where to look.

try to find one of those singing postcards that happens to sing that song... that will be far out the easiest way to make that !! a friend of mine once had a postcard with a police car and a serene and flashing lights... he placed those into his rhino so when he opened the back door the serene would start and and the lights inside would flash

I found stuff like this with a quick search, there's also bunches on ebay with varying durations, search for 'recordable sound module'.

Lightswise you can search for 'miniature lights for models', I browsed this site a while back and it has lots of cool stuff.

I've read of people doing all sorts of lights and audio for their models, I myself motorized a dreadnought assault cannon so it spins when I hit a button, hid everything inside the dreadnought's body too so there's nothing under the base.

I ordered a sound module from eBay, gotta hope it will be shipped too ( 100% reliability on seller. ) Now I'll just need some lights.

The tears of awesomeness will run down my face when I hit that button for the first time on the fully painted Rhino. Noise Marines are puny, this is how the Death Guard rolls.

I have seen that done before,It was with a friends Purple and pink Space marines. He bought them off of ebay. They were painted very nice and was from a female ex-player.So he hooked up a i-pod Nano and had them playing the Village People. He just told people that they got lonely travellling around the GAlaxy. For his speakers he found some amped headphones.

LED's are available on Ebay aswell. Thats where I get mine. Diffrent sizes, color and flashing(or not).

I have hidden a duel AAA battery compartment under my rhinos in the past. Got them from Radio Shack. 3volts and a ton of run time.

Radio Shack also sells switches but I went to Miniatronics.com to get mini toggle switches for N scale trains.

Hope to see a video of everything when you're done. Good luck.

Can't wait to see a video of this, it's such a crazy good idea. Now I'm considering putting a sound module in my battlewagon.

I tried to light up an RMS Titanic model from the inside, but ended up frying some of the LEDs because I wired the resistors in the wrong order! In the end I settled for a set of commercial battery powered lights but it seems well worth learning how to do wiring properly; there's bound to be some tutorials online.

Hah this sounds funny. Now if only there was a way to attach a small microphone to my Chaos Lord so he can say 'MEHTAL BAWKSES!'...

If there's a will there's a way.

Microphone is for input though, you'd want a speaker. If you have some fundamental electronics knowhow you could tinker it together yourself, otherwise one of those recordable "giftcard" speaker kits mentioned earlier in the thread could be tweaked into a not too oversized display base and/or figure. Depending on what size speaker you get you could even build it into a piece of equipment the model is carrying, and have the rest of the stuff built inside the figure and/or base. Could put him on a slab of hollowed out cork or build some floor/ruin/structure out of plasticard. 40mm base with a bit ontop should be more than enough.

Better yet just get mini speakers, conceal them on the rhino somewhere and leave the hatch removeable and you can fit a ipod nano in there and play any music you want....my buddy did that to a baneblade (which i ended up with in trade)....funny playing "Bodies" or "this is war" coming out of a banebade....

Arduino + Audio shield/memory module + LEDs + Power supple + time = win

adafruit might have something along those lines. You might only be able to produce midi sounds though unless you invest in a proper microcontroller to handle the audio processes.

Use cheap headphones and wire them up as speakers = tiny speakers

You need a little display on the roof showing the video too. Seeing the 70s men with Tipp-Ex'ed teeth will psyche out even the most stoic opponent.

Get a musical greeting card. Take out the little device that plays the music. Attach the "trigger" of said device on the outside, perhaps on the hatch so when you open it, the music plays.
Get a whole bunch of the same ones and put them in all your tanks and TRY to "open" them all at the same time so they are in sync with each other. In Stereo!!

It is done.

My army arrives into battle with style, and I do mean style:

http://youtu.be/xYDZxJY2YMI

Here's a Vimeo -link that will be active around 1hour from posting, incase YouTube starts crying about the music used.

https://vimeo.com/56030077

Features a built in mic and record button, so I can make it play anything. Even to shout METAL BAWKSES.

Finished version will be in my army blog, in the Painting and Modeling Showcase section.

You should go through and make sure things like the driver's view port and the pintle hatches allow the flashing light to show through them. That way you can see it when the back door is closed up. Should add to the overall effect.

Also, although it might be a bit too late for this particular one - I have used magnetic switches in the past to operate things like this. You don't have any exposed buttons or switches that you need to deal with...all you do is hold a magnet over a specific spot in order to toggle the switch.

You want to ADD to the effect? It is already perfect.
