Just wondering as when we do 'army lists', has there ever been a 'perfect list' for a particular army fighting another army?

I know the luck of the dice is always involved, but is there anything that you see on the table and go 'oh my god, I'm dead. I wan't to go home'?

There are uphill battles, and there are definantly some rocks to others sissors but rarely is there any match up that doesnt stand a chance because the dice gods can deem any list beatable at any time.

I remember a long time ago, allesio cavatore submitted a challenge in WD to create an unbeatable WHFB list, and submitted his choice with the reasoning in the article.
It was a beardy WAAC wet dream of a challenge, but the clincher was that there is no 'perfect' list, since an unbeatable army can always be beaten by an exact copy, in which case that perfect unbeatable list both wins, and loses.

Naturally, a tailored list stands a better chance of defeating an army than an untailored one, but when both players tailor, it throws everything up in the air. I would say, while its possible to design a perfect anti(whatever) list, its only possible if you know EXACTLY what is in the opponents army when you create your own. otherwise, all bets are off since he might tailor his force to beat yours, and make things even more unpredictable.

Possible, certainly.
Likely? certainly not.

Anytime I see 27 screamers and 27 flamers I don't play. So yes, I would call that the perfect list.

If both players list tailors you don't even need models anymore...you just check what the other guy did, change your list.
Then he check yours and change his, then you check his list....you get the point.
Really cost effective, you only need codexes.

That's a one-trick-poney and certainly beatable, even if the game won't be much fun. It's no worse than the likes of Draigowing in 5th playing a Kill Points mission.

Actually, that list is auto-fail vs any kind of flyer spam since it can't touch it at all!!! Most of the time, the only support that "list" has is a cheap Herald for HQ and maaaaybe a Prince or two. IG and 'Crons just laugh. Any horde army just shrugs and burries those MEQ/TEQ tailored killers under a sea of bodies. Anyone playing a mech list just laughs and deploys everything inside their transports.
It's really a TFG list that works by catching opponent's by surprise and relying your shock to overcome your common sense. Give it another month, and I'll bet it's just a footnote just like Leafblower turned out to be.

Then wait for Feb & the new Daemon codex, and laugh yourself silly as all those morons who sunk into it nerdrage-quit because their T4/W2 models lose their Eternal Warrior!

As for an 'unbeatable list'. Sure there are some specific ones, since you can make crap like;

a) 30+ Strikes/Interceptors going first vs Daemons. (100% impossible to even deploy more than 1 unit on the table - if you're even that lucky!)

b) Flyer spam vs anyone without access to AA beyond a single ADL.

c) Grey Knights vs Tyranids! (okay, not really, but let's face it - GK's do for some stupid reason have "-up Tyranids" written all over them!)
