Title says it all, I just got my first flying potato, I was just curious if people had any tips to make the most out of it, I got it set-up with the CML. I do have an ADL with quad-gun and a Mortis Contemptor (awaiting FW's package) as well for AA support.

Thanks in advance.

I use mine as anti tank/elite/MC killers. With lascannon and assault cannon I can go after any target and the twin linking helps.

You simply want to use them to strafe the table killing things, but don't forget about hover strike, it's saved me a few times.

Just make sure your's complements your list, since I run 3 TFC's and some other stuff, my anti-tank is lacking and these guys provide all the support I need.

I also like taking an eldar ally for anti psy and then trying for scriers gaze so that I can roll three dice for my reserve rolls and normally this ensures my stormtalons come in when I need them.

I would just make sure it is effective vs flyers and ground targets. There is no guarantee that the enemy has a flyer. It seems reasonable that the primary focus could be anti AV 10-12. Frankly, that's how I see my stormraven even.

I run two of them and I also use as an AT unit with LCs. But the guns often prove to be effective for other things as well.

Typhoon missile launcher from here to eternity. Best all around build for it.

As for uses, in this configuration, use it to kill vehicles or infantry as needed. It only doesn't do well against AV14, which you should have other things for.

Its also pretty good against Flyers in this setup. 2 Str8 and 4 Str6 rending shots will put paid to even AV12.

I was thinking of running both of mine with the skyhammer missile launcher, because it is better at AA then the typhoon, and I have 8 normal missile launchers in my list already.

The issue with the skyhammer shots is that they are S7, which struggles vs AV 12. The typhoon missiles have S8 and can be fired as S4 small blast against infantry targets as needed.

The skyhammer's only superiority over the Krak missiles is its range and one more shot. They are inferior in every other respect.

Whats more, the longer range isn't going to come into play except perhaps once in a blue moon or in Appocalypse. a 48" range, especially on a Flyer, is never going to have range issues in a normal game.

Having a longer ranged weapon on a storm talon might serve when you hoverstrike near the board edge but even then you waste your AC or your stormtalon has high chances to get trashed.
Hoverstrike is useful when you are about to leave the table on turn 5 or later as units in reserve count as a KP in purge the alien.
It is situational but it is nice to have the option as you trade the possibility of giving a free KP for an easy one...plus you get to fire at bs5 which is nice on the non twinliked weapons.
Since you can pivot before firing in hoverstrike it is sometimes possible to get some cover...well it is kind of mandatory since you become a skimmer but you dont get jink because you cant move.

If I did my math right, (and I'm not sure I did) the skyhammer's extra shot means it has a higher chance of glancing av 12. I'll double check later though.

Terminator with Assault Cannon

Thus far I have been digging Stormtalons with just the basic Assault Cannon and Heavy Bolter.

One useful thing I noticed is that the Assault Cannon mount can turn all the way around and shoot targets behind the Stormtalon or to its sides. I find that this is highly useful against many flyers, most notably Vendettas and Heldrakes, since you can fly over or behind them and fire on their weaker rear armor. Since the secondary weapon mounts do not pivot in this fashion, I keep them barebones with just the bolters, as often they do not get a chance to fire.

I'm in the assault cannon/typhoon crowd. Marines bring this thing for anti-flyer right? Krak missiles can penetrate skyrants and can pen most flyers on a 4+. Sounds like a plan to me.
