I don't believe they are at all related.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

I remember hearing that the two properties are completely distinct, and that the people working on the Monsterpocalypse movie are waiting to see how well Pacific Rim does.

I, for one, would gladly welcome the return of the giant fighting monster movie genre.

Guess we're not getting a Mosterpocalypse movie anytime soon.

It looks a whole lot like Monsterpocalypse. The chests of the robots look the same as in the game. It may just be coincidence. Either way, I'll totally watch it.....on DVD.

2012- stopped caring
Nova Open 2011- Orks 8th Seed---(I see a trend)
Adepticon 2011- Mike H. Orks 8th Seed (This was the WTF list of the Final 16)
Adepticon 2011- Combat Patrol Best General

Given that they are BOTH based on the Japanese Kaiju giant monster/Giant Robot fighting movies, some similarities are unavoidable.

And GDT is a huuuuuge fanboy of pop-culture, so there's another factor (of Kaiju, not monpoc).

GLaDOS was a surprising and fun touch...

The robot's chest design reminds me a bit of the invading alien robots in the EDF game (earth defense force)

Also the Monpoc movie option is currently held by Tim Burton's production company, as with most movie option bids they can sit on it for quite a while before acting on it or not.

You do know who is directing Pacific Rim, right?

Yes, and it's still going to flop.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

I'm not expecting much from it either.

Who's directing it and why is it going to flop?

It's directed by Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, etc).

It will fail because kaiju movies just don't have the mass-market appeal outside of asia (they have a kind of kitsch-ness that a certain subset of gamers/SF fans appreciate, but that's about it.).

To be fair, Guillermo Del Toros movies are rarely huge blockbusters. He makes fantastic movies that are critically well received (mostly) that while not outright flopping, tend to be a bit middling in their success. I really don't see Pacific Rim being much different - at least they're timing it right as a Summer Blockbuster for the US holiday season.

Also, it's exactly the kind of movie I enjoy. I mean, I enjoyed Battle Los Angeles for the same reason I'll enjoy this - stupid sci fi action movies are my thing.

I even enjoyed Battleship. Don't hurt me.

I have higher hopes for this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2368139

"The story will focus on the relationship between Bruce and Betty Ross at the very beginning of the Hulk's existence. A much younger Bruce Banner than what has been seen in the movies is intended to be cast."

I'm not sure how they're going to work in anything about the Hulk into that if it's based on the Marvel Cinema Universe - it was pretty obvious there was a very short span of time between the gamma exposure and where the story picked up in the reboot movie, and most of that was on the run. Betty hadn't even heard from Bruce until he reappeared in the movie. Considering he's still on the run after the movie and before the Avengers, there's hard'y the time available in the continuity to base an entire series. Hell, they had to short change Thors story on Earth to fit it in the timeline.

I can't really see Marvel okaying a project these days that doesn't tie into the cinema universe with how popular its become either. I can totally see a series happening, but that synopsis... just won't work.
