Does anyone actually know why it’s nearly £40 ($64) for 5 wraithguard? I think they would make a great choice for an Eldar army, (not that I have one) it just seems silly that they are so expensive. Surely they can’t be selling many of these kits! Especially as the best way to run them is in groups of 10.
The mind boggles.... Is this game getting too expensive. Definitely. Proxy’s A’HOY!

GW like to think they have high quality finecast products and adjust their prices accordingly. I like the models and the rules, but ebay is your friend in this scenario.

Games Workshop switched to Resin because it was cheaper, and the prices wouldn't fluctuate like metal.
Then increased the cost of finecast stuff by an average of 20%.
And yeah, GW prices a lot of things out of what people can reasonably afford, often pricing things based on its FoC slot and rules.
Wraithguard are great, but like so much, too expensive to actually buy. :(

GW is doing some seriously odd things with their price structure. Take a look at Bretonnian Grail and Questing Knights over in the Fantasy section. $75.00 US for five models. Those models include PLASTIC Bretonnian horses from the base Knights of the Realm kit, leaving only the Knight bits in Finecast. So, you tell me why they put it at that price point.
Oh, yea, "because they can".

The only reason I have four (metal, never, ever Finecast) Wraithguard is because I bought them as part of a gift certificate the wife gave me to GW online. I've always wanted them, but could never bring myself to pay the idiotic $15 per model cost for a unit that requires at least three of them to be used at all (bought just before the switch to Finecast.) for a model that GW has been milking since freaking 1992.
In fact, the only reason I even bought them then was that they were soon being switched to Finecast, and I felt the urgency and considered it now-or-never for a unit, and the gift certificate was handy.
I doubt I will ever have more than 4 and a warlock, because that 5-man unit is worth 70 dollars.

Apparently, they've fixed most of the issues now (though I'm yet to test it myself), and they actually pulled a lot of Finecast from the shelves for almost 2 months while it was rectified...
Again - whether it is not (and even if it is, it's possibly too little too late to fix the reputation), it still took what... 2 years to fix it?

350. For $120 you could nab 3 Leman Russes (at a discount place, which matters since you can't buy Failcrap at TheWarStore). Which is EASILY 500 points. The way I run them they're closer to 700.
More importantly, just because a model costs more points doesn't mean it should cost more $$$. Under that idea the IG infantry box should cost half of what it does. I mean look at how many points you get out of the similarly priced SM Tac box! Either way, it's a 20+ year old sculpt that isn't that big or interesting.

I believe the price in metal was £7.20 per, (though I don't know if that was higher at any point).
The Finecast ones work out at £7.50 per.
Personally, I think even £25 a box would be more reasonable (if not £20.50 to match other 5-man Elites options)
At £20.50 I'd do a Wraithguard Army - and I'm sure plenty others would too.

As some above posters have mentioned, Ebay is indeed your friend.
I have a full army of Wraithguard (run 3 squads of 10), and almost all of these were bought from Ebay. I think I got them all in for about £180? Which isn't too bad when you consider it was just over 9 quid a pop for the metal ones.
Mine are all metal as well i should state btw. I dread the new Eldar Codex when Wraithguard will undoubtedly be removed as a troops choice....

I hope they keep them as troops. I'm lucky though, in that the guys at my FLGS have said to just use the old codex if that actually happens. I reckon it will maybe change to a special character unlocking them, which i'd be totally fine with, just as long as the army wasn't invalidated entirely.

Agreed. GWs pricing schemes are the reason I use sites like Bartertown, the trade forums here, or ebay.

This is obviously a very strongly viewed topic. I’m glad it’s not just me that thinks it’s kinda Bull. I don’t really agree with what one of you guys has said about 'pricing vs points cost’. I don’t think they should market the models that way. Surely if they were reasonably priced then they would sell more! I guess the whole hobby is going that way though, & I guess were not likely to have a 50% drop in prices from the GW - EVER! I am looking after an Eldar army for one of my friends at the mo. I think I’ll just use his Dire Avengers as Wraithguard models. It’s not like I’ll be playing tournaments with them. Also, as the guy above has pointed out, even on e-bay, the models are still going for the same/nearly the same price as GW. I’ve also noticed that a lot of these 3rd party companies that sell the stuff slightly cheaper, don’t even have them in stock. Although, this may be due to casting errors as mentioned above. It’s a sad state of affairs really. I’ve put so much time, money & effort into this hobby, & I really just feel like it’s getting too expensive to keep up.
As for a new Eldar codex, if/when one comes, I do think it will be awesome. I do feel like the WG models will be dropped totally though, or at least loose their ability to become troops.
Who knows. Pure speculation on my behalf. Anyhow, at the rate their releasing new codex’s/updates, it’ll be a while before we see any action on that front.

I very seriously doubt wraithguard will ever be removed as troops. Not only does that effectively eliminate 20% of major craftworld fluff armies, wraithguard thoops aren't even that good. If they were super op maybe.
Honestly I would like to see the ability to take a squad of 6 with a spiritseer and a wave serpent as troops brought back.

Well, that's not that bad. Sure, there are some units that are more efficient per point, but there are plenty of units that don't.
I mean, 350 points of scoring units? If you play vostroyan guard, even assuming you give good them special and heavy weapons, costs $264. TWICE as much as the wraithlord. Even assuming we're talking plastic cadians, mechvets will cost you $117. Leave guard and a pair of tervagons costs you $115, and 350 points of ork boyz will cost you $253.
I hate to tell you, but a 10-bot wraithguard squad is actually CHEAP for their points compared to most other scoring units.

Ebay is your friend in the case of wraith guard. I got 10 metal wraithguard for like $80 (Canadian) on ebay a few months back. That's slightly more than one box of 5 fine cast. Twice as many of them and much more durable for the same price as one box? Yes please. Normally I'm an advocate of supporting your FLGS, because if you don't, then you won't have a place to play (if you play at a store of course), but I just can't bring myself to pay that much (It's $78 for us canadians) for 5 infantry models. That's more than an Eldar vehicle. To me, there's no reason that they should be so expensive.

Those are some really expensive options... Look at any Space Marine flavor (almost half the armies), Necrons, or Tau. And more importantly, I can buy 36 Necron warriors (Plus 9 Scarab bases) giving me a total of 600 points for LESS than 10 Wraithguard. 45 models for slightly less than 10 models who are slightly bigger? And as some people want to compare... uses less points? Oh and those Necrons are actually posable and in a good medium for converting?

Wraithguard armies are the only thing I have ever been interested in. But im a necron player so undead robots is kind of my thing. I might honestly buy the wraithguard fine cast models still. Unfortunately I have too much on my workbench already.
I also expect in the next book that wraithguard get moved from the 10 man requirement to a troop choice if prince yriel is in your army. That might be when I start my wraithguard army. I already bought prince yriel and a friend of mine who is deployed over seas has me holding onto his eldar. So until he gets back I have models to play with.

I looked at the price and couldn't belive the price, eBay is cheaper, but its not just them i play CSM and don't want to pay for the codex. 40k is literaly gettig to expensive for me to keep up with my armies let alone start new ones.
