Rulebook states that Psychic Powers can be Snap Fired, but abilities that don't roll to hit (such as templates, blasts, or lines) cannot be Snap Fired. The given example would be a Space Wolf Rune Priest in a unit that has Gone to Ground attempting to Snap Fire Jaws of the World Wolf.

You mean beam powers? They can be snap fired, they roll to hit.

Jaws cannot be snap fired, as it does not roll to hit.

Beams or "line: psychic powers cannot be fired as snap shot. Any shooting attack that does not use BS cannot be fired as a snapshot. As beams do not roll to hot it cannot be fired.

read the rest of the rule.

""To use a witchfire power with the beam sub-type......target a point within the power's range and trace a line (about 1mm thick) between the chosen point and the center of the Psykers base. The beam automatically hits all models (friend or foe), other than the Psyker, under the line.

No roll to hit . Snapshot rules PG 13 last sentence. "It's important to note that any shooting attack that does not use Ballistic skill - such as the monoliths portal of exile - cannot be "fired" as snap shots"

As there is no roll to hit involving BS it cannot be fired as a snapshot. The only exception to this rule that i know of is flamers because they have the wall of death special rule that excludes/limits them from the above rule.

Doesn't the FAQ trump this?

So i was wrong. I was thinking of overwatch not just snapshot in general. They cant fire overwatch i know. As my army generally cant go to ground and i dont have any vehicles i dont get much exp with snapshot other than overwatch.

Is a psychic power a weapon?

Absolutely understand that this isnt fully relevant but it does suggest that beams can't be snapshot based on how iris answered.

Q: How do maelstroms, novas and beams – or indeed any weapon that doesn’t need to roll To Hit or hits automatically – interact with Zooming Flyers and Swooping Flying Monstrous Creatures? (p13)

A: Only Snap Shots can hit Zooming Flyers and Swooping Flying Monstrous Creatures. Therefore, any attacks that use blast markers, templates, create a line of/area of effect or otherwise don’t roll to hit cannot target them. This includes weapons such as the Necron Doom Scythe’s death ray or the Deathstrike missile of the Imperial Guard, and psychic powers that follow the rule for maelstroms, beams, and novas.

Depends on the power, but on the whole, yes. An assault weapon mostly.

That is very specifically for Zooming Flyers. Not in general.

"Only snapshots can... Therefore..." It is relevant since there is no strict RAW written out on this and it has to be left up to human interpretation.

Q: Can psychic shooting attacks be fired as Snap Shots (assuming
that the Psyker has enough Warp Charge available and requires a
roll to hit)? (p13)
A: Yes, but only in your own Shooting phase. This means that
psychic shooting attacks cannot be made when firing
Overwatch.
