I was wondering how many people like one form of material over the other. Real book or Ebook. If you are a fan of Ebooks what do you read them on.

I am always a fan of having a real book. I like to see the progress I am making ready the book by where my bookmark is. I am not picky either. I buy used 40k books all the time. I have some of the 40k books that are only out in electronic format but I will not reread them like my real ones.

Also I always say when some form of apocalypse happens I will still be able to read my books where all the ebooks will be gone because electric will be non existent.

I have always just preferred the feel of a book in my hands rather than having to flip through on some kind of tablet or ebook reader

Proper book for the main source. But I also very much like small snippers on a website, or the occasional PDF supplement hosted there. A full "e-book" strikes me as an in-between that offers neither of the advantages of the other media (oldschool reader feeling vs easy/free accessibility), other than serving as a carrier for information.

I don't have a tablet or e-reader, so book form is it for me.

Prefer the tactility of an actual book - and e-books don't have that new book smell. If they do, then you just shorted it out.

But I prefer my own navel fluff to 40ks stuff, these days. There's more to it and it's better constructed.

Nothing will ever beat the tactile experience of a real book.

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

Reading books is the only thing I can do without glasses

If it would be another monitor I would have to wear the glasses even then and could not even relax my eyes before going to bed.

Playing mostly Necromunda and Battletech, Malifaux is awesome too!

Can't tell you. It's a secret...

I have read some eBooks, but its just not the same. Sure it can be handy, especially in .pdf format when you are searching for something (Ctrl+F ). But nothing beats the feel & smell of a book.

Don't grow up!!!

I love e-books.
My room at uni is somewhat limited when it comes to space so e-books have been featuring a lot in my life recently.
However, I do agree there is a wonderful charm around buying physical books... the smell mostly.
That new book smell is so good... almost as good as new game smell.

I recently bought a Nexus 7 tablet and have been reading a bunch of the Horus Heresy books on it. The thing has automatic back-lighting and it's great for reading in bed.

For me, it's both. (irrespective of the 40K aspect of the question).

If it's a book to read for entertainment (e.g. a Horus Heresy novel) then I 100% get the 'paper' version, because I enjoy the tactile aspects of reading a book (e.g. going out, looking for one on a shelf, putting it on my bookshelf, physically turning pages, the smell of old books etc).

On the other hand, if it's something technical (like a rulebook, codex, etc) I would much rather have it in .pdf on a tablet (and is one of the reasons why I am going to invest in a tablet in January) because it means I can carry all my rulebooks, manuals, army lists, codeci etc in a single item, and the additional bonus of I can do keyword searches, jump between pages etc so if I'm in the middle of a game, and I forget what weapon X does, I can get to the important bit quickly without disrupting the game by having to flip through 23 pages of cruft before I even get to the weapon rules section, also with the likes of battlescribe on android/ios/etc I can make/view army lists for a variety of systems on the fly without having to carry pen and paper around.

Think about it, if I turn up at games night without a pre-planned game, and lets say I play 40k (and I have an army with an allied detachment), Bushido, Dystopian Wars and Malifaux, bringing all 4 games just-in-case, that's 6+ books to lug around. (rules, 2 codeci), Bushido Rules, Dystopian Wars rules (+possibly supplemental books) + Malifaux rules (+possibly supplemental books). On top of that I bring my current discworld novel to read on the train, and we're up to 7 books, I haven't carried >7 around since I left uni (and it didn't happen very often then). I'd much rather carry around a single novel and a tablet than a small library of stuff just to push my toy soldiers round a table.

I used to think this way until I got my kindle. Now I much prefer the convenience of the device. I still like the HH stuff in collectors edition for the sake of collecting, but prefer to read on my kindle. Carrying hundreds of books in my bag and it weighing a couple of ounces is pure win.

I think when the apocalypse comes I may be too busy to be catching up on my reading anyway.

I can understand that. My husband like to use our tablet for codexs. Even more so when it is a Apocalypse match. We orginally got a tablet because he was deployed and couldn't carry around 15 paper books with him. In those kind of situations they are worth their weight in gold.

I voted e-book, not because I don't like real books. I love them, the feel of the pages, the good smell, the worn down look that shows you've read and re-read.
BUT I also like the e-book format because it saves you space if you don't have any more shelves/can't buy any, it can be handy for finding that one chapter through search, and it's easy to take a whole series on a long trip (which I go on alot).

You can adjust the size of fonts on the kindle and the regular one uses e-ink technology which is as easy on the eyes as regular paper.

I prefer Ebooks these days, because um... well. They're "more available", eh heh... >__>

Also, with an ebook, I can just copy-pasta whatever fluff excerpt I'm looking to smash Lynata with.

There's something more authentic and emotional about a physical book... or maybe its just me channeling Jean Luc's nostalgia for the bound word.

That e-ink isn't as good as it is hyped to be. I am still looking at a screen no matter how they try to trick my eyes. I figure I look at screens all day. The computer, my phone, the tv why do I need to look at a screen to read. I am trying to give my eyes a break.

Also I have a innate problem with Kindles because you can only get books from Amazon. Unless the new Fire is different. The kindle e-books are formatted into a certain file and only those are able to be read on it. I found a program to get around that but still not my point. The cheaper tablets that have a e-reader program can atleast read any kind of e-book file.
