I'm planning on making a few lists centered around Typhus and the Plague zombies ranging from 1500-2000 points. I was just wondering if people had found any certain sweet spots when it came to how many you field. I plan on running 70 at 2k, but at the same time, I'm thinking of dropping a unit of plague marines to field another unit of 35.

It depends what your list needs. 10 is all that is needed to claim an objective, while 35 will tarpit the longest. As zombies don't bring much offensive fire power, using them to push into the enemy dz is tough. Perhaps 35 as a sacrificial screen and 3 units of 10 to nab the 3 objectives you may have in your dz? That leaves 2 units of plague marines to nab an enemy objective and earn line breaker, which seems fine.

I'm going all out and having 6 squads of 30 zombies for my Typhus list. I always try to have some chosen and havok squads so make sure you got enough stuff for killing with!

I use two-three units of 20. I play with a good amount of terrains and anything larger would be too unwieldy.

I really dont see why you want maxed units of PZ. They are fearless to the last man so more units would be better.

You save 10pts taking a unit of 20 over two units of 10. Having bigger units also makes it harder to give up a VP in Purge the Alien.
That said, I concur that with Fearless units you're generally better off with more units than maxing out the size of your units. Especially since one unit can only hold one objective in 6th, as opposed to 5th when it could spread out and hold more than one at a time.
Right now for lists using Typhus I'm planning on generally 2-3 units of 14-21 plague zombies, and two units of Plague Marines. That gives a good number of durable scoring units, without taking too many points away from killier units.

I would always go for at least 20 zombies. Anything less and your zombies would just get wiped in close combat or over the course of the game get whitled down by shooting when they have nothing else to shoot.
Thats all you need is having your 10-15 zombies (turn 5, some will die by then.) holding the game winning objective to get wiped by a VET or PCS squad in a chimera.
Sure you don't need max but you need more than minimum too.....In my opinion anyway.

Hmm, yeah, what you guys are saying makes sense. I'll probably try out the smaller units of 20 next time. It was a pretty big pain moving around squads of 35, and I did feel a lack of firepower.

I've bought Mantics Z Corp for this very reason.
The annoying thing is, I really like zombies, but don't actually want a nurgle heavy army....

Personally, I like a mix.. 2-3 big squads [20-25], 1 minimum squad [10-15]. A squad of Plague Marines and an allied troop fills out the rest of my scoring units. Keeping in mind that a 35 man squad is quite unwieldy and will be moving through difficult terrain for most of the game. You can always bounce your independent characters from squad to squad, so there really is no reason for the max size squad.

So make a counts as Typhus for whatever Legion suits your taste. Just model a mean lookin terminator dude with a ginormous axe.. Have some fun with it.

Sorry for reviving an old thread but....
I run two different zombie lists. My favorite has 5 squads of 35 zombies. I keep the units spread out as much as possible and it normally fills a good portion of my deployment zone. I keep Typhus back in one of those squads and have never given up slay the warlord yet. I put the squads on objectives and move extras up the table to screen units behind and to threaten anything that comes close. They are great at tarpitting wraithknights, dreads, terminators... pretty much anything that isnt s6 or higher with a ton of attacks.
What usually happens is the first few turns people try to shoot them down and realize they are hard to kill, then ignore them the rest of the game. The most I have ever lost was 2 squads of 35 to deamons... Lots of s6, ignore cover shots followed up with seeker spam.
As for unwieldy, yeah... a bit. I normally leapfrog with my opponents permission and just measure whatever my move through cover is and pull from the back to that spot up front. I make sure I move the zombie sarge up through the middle. once I get close to an enemy though, I'm more likely to do an actual move. It goes pretty quickly, especially the way I keep them spread out, and I have had no complaints about slow hammer.
My second list usually contains 3 squads of 20-25 zombies and 2 squads of 10 plagues. Depending on what I'm facing I either screen the zombies with the plagues or the plagues with the zombies. Works well also.

My friend runs around 90 (5-6 squads) in 1500pts. 1) It has two mauler fiends, 2 helldrakes, 2 nurgle oblits and 3 nurgle termicides. 2) He measures the front and back row; theres a knack but you can do it quickly as the unit is hermginous (spelling.. i.e. all the same) 3) Each squad has a champion Zombie (must challenge), which can be very good protection for Typhus. 4) Killing all 90 zombies is just plain hard. Add in the first/second turn (distractions/beatsticks depending on enemy firepower); you can just waste enough of the opponents time before you switch to zombies. 4a) For example... Riptide. Lovely model, lots of pew. Engage with 15 zombies (75pts, scoring?) riptide is now out-of-action for the game.
