Hello

Can a stormtalon in Hoover mode still use the sky fire rule?

Cheers

No. It becomes a Fast Skimmer and is no longer a flyer.

Storm Talons cannot enter Hover Mode. They can use their special rule, Hover Strike, though. If they do, then they change their unit type to Skimmer and thus do not have the ability to fire their weapons with Skyfire.

For completeness, if a Flyer does actually have the Hover type, then it still won't get to choose to use Skyfire, either (RB FAQ p6).

Indeed:

(From said FAQ)

Q: Can Flyers in Hover mode still choose to use the Skyfire special
rule? (p81)
A: No.

I didn't know this either. I always assumed a Flyer always had access to Skyfire.

Eh, I'd be careful with that wording. The use of skyfire is disallowed by the FAQ but the unit itself never loses the "flyer" type. If it did, it would never be able to be a flyer again as only flyers have "hover". All in all, it is treated as a fast skimmer for that turn meaning it can't utilize any of the flyer rules, but it never stops being a flyer.

Doesn't the Skyhammer Missile System have skyfire?
Can you hover strike and skyhammer skyfire?

Yes, because the weapon itself has the Skyfire rule, as opposed to relying on the Flyer having it

Does the WD article give it Skyfire? Because my iCodex doesn't have Skyfire listed in the weapon's rules.

No, it doesn't.
The weapon itself has never had Skyfire.

Hover mode does change the Type completely, they lose Flyer and Become Fast skimmer(Hover strike loses flyer and becomes regular skimmer); in both cases the rule that changes the type tells you to decide which Vehicle type the flyer in question is for the current set of turns.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Which is fine for a Storm Talon because it doesn't lose access to the Hover Strike rule by virtue of becoming a Skimmer and further, the rule specifically says it only becomes a Skimmer "until the start of its next movement phase".

Of course, with Standard Flyer (Hover) vehicles using the rulebook rules, if they cease to have the Flyer type entirely, they no longer have access to the Hover rule which tells you to declare how the vehicle will act before moving each turn, and that declaration isn't given a set end point at the time it is made. It is now just a normal Skimmer with no way to return to it's previous form of being a Flyer (Hover).

The rules fundamentally break unless you continue to consider a Hovering Flyer to, on some level, remain a Flyer.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

No, it doesn't, it's "treated as" a fast skimmer. Yes, for all rules purposes for that round it is effectively a fast skimmer instead of a zooming flyer, but it never loses the "flyer" type. Mainly because it is not "treated as" a zooming flyer when it's not hovering. It *IS* a zooming flyer when it's not hovering. Again, if it lost being a flyer then can you show me where it says what to do with fast skimmers that have hover?
