Hey all.
A couple of weeks ago I was in my local GW and bought the Necron Battleforce. I have been painting nothing but SM for the last 7 years and the box just leapt off the shelf...

Just thought I would share what I have been doing.

Here is a shot of 5/10 painted warriors and 3/10 painted scarabs. I only put 2 scarabs per base to stretch them to 10 bases. I can't see this being a problem with people?
With my Necrons I want to keep an idea of the mindless hoard of robot zombies. With this in mind I have kept the paint job simple. Warplock Bronze base coat, Nuln oil wash then Warplock Bronze followed by Boltgun metal dry brushing.
Something cool I found with the Perspex green rifle barrels. If you spray them with matt varnish the frosted effect defuses the light hitting it and creates a glowing effect all by itself

Next the Ark
I have gone all out on magnetizing it. It is taking for ever as I am also filling gaps and getting rid of as much flash and mould lines as possible.
Surprisingly it seems GW have made this model easy to magnetize. After a little cutting it was easy to put some 10mm magnets into the 3 main sections.

I can now configure as Doomsday Ark

or Ghost Ark

One extra thing. I bought some liquid green stuff for this project and WOW. You can paint it on, thin it with water to smooth, sand it. I definitely recommend it to anyone. Give it a try

Cheers Vim

You are a great model maker my friend. I have bought two Ghost Arks, and I tell you what, I hated assembling the first one so much that I didn't build the second yet. I didn't even touch a drill or magnet either. AND I left off all of the broken down necrons in the middle riding.
Don't get me wrong, I like model building in general, but something about this model aggrevated me. I wish I could put my finger on it.
Also, I love your bases, they are simple but provide good contrast to the greens/silver.

Hello,

You did a great job on the magnetizing!! They can be fiddley cant they!
Was your plan to make the Ghost Ark able to swap out as the other ( cant remember the name ) vehicle ?
And I like your bases as well.
Have you thought about using different colored rods in your Crons?
There was a link here on Dakka that has cool colored rods...Can anyone out there find that link?

Keep up the great work

Those 5 warriors look great. I especially like your basing technique. The colors pop very well and its just pleasing to the eye. Cheers

Hopefully one day i'll have an army!

Thanks guys.
@Brymm. With something like a Rhino. You can put it together quite fast and POW... Another ride for my army. This Ark though is taking ages. Thankfully I am on holiday right now so have some time on my hands. I don't know if I would build another. Building the passenger section with all the cleanup was... testing

@FarseerAndyMan. Originally I was going to paint the rods as I hate the look of the Perspex but the matt varnish thing helped. A different colour would be cool but I just wanted to get on with it.

I've built 3 Ghost Arks so far and, even with zero magnetization, they were a total pain - but painting them is far worse. Playing with them redeems it, though - I've had one 10-man warrior squad take 12 wounds over the course of the game and have 10 warriors standing at the end.

Anyway, I love the scheme you've got. It's simple, very effective, and cleanly done. Can't wait to see what you do with the Ark.
