Subject: Ripper Swarm Semi-Competative List
|
 |
Infiltrating Broodlord
|
So, I decided to come up with a list for semi competative play, and also for the sheer fun of it. I know this won't do much to some lists, however, it does have use against AV 11 lists and armies that run mostly on foot.
Parasite of Mortrex
6x Rippers with Spinefist
2x Hive Guard
10x Genestealers
Thats a 500 pt list, and now for the 1k list
Parasite of Mortrex
9x Rippers with Spinefist
9x Rippers with Spinefist
1x Broodlord
15x Genestealers
3x Hive Guard
3x Hive Guard
The whole idea is to hide the parasite inside the rippers for the extra wounds and march them across the board, while the genestealers outflank and hive guard pop anything that seems to cause too much trouble. Then, pop the parasite out prior to assualting, and let the rippers open fire. The twin linked shots should work well on standard infantry, and there are plenty of shots. Then, launch in the parasite to mop up and spawn more bases, and assualt the rippers, and work to maul over whatever they can, without getting tied up in combat for long. The genestealers also work to capture fire from the enemy as the rippers run up to close combat. For the 1k variant, the idea was to outflank the genestealers, then have the parasite fly up to join them. Using the broodlord to cast whatever biomancy he can, they should survive into close combat while the main force moves in. I would love to hear your advice on this. I can't help but imagine a horde of rippers eventually absorbing the field.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

Spinefists are S3, you can't even glance AV10.
I would suggest adding a Tyrant with old aversary, armoured shell and probably some guard so you can for a fire target away from the rippers and give preferred enemy to the rippers. Genestealers aren't helping the list, ymgarls are better though.

Are ripper swarms beasts now? If not keep the parasite with gargoyles to take advantage of it's speed.
Also how many ripper bases do you have? Need to save some for generated rippers.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Yea...just noticed my math was off on spinefists. So, rather than running them at tanks, run them at infantry, and use the hive guard and parasite for popping armor. As for ripper swarm bases, I am working to grow them to roughly 60+.

Big nasty issue with this list is that if you pop the Parasite, the list quite literally dies off do to lack of synapse. Other issue is your whole list is going to be slowed to 6" move thanks to having to keep the HG in Synapse to get the advantages of the impaler cannon. No synapse and they start to require LOS again.
Sticking the Parasite with the rippers will make it T3 for wounding do to majority toughness and any blast or template is going to hurt thanks to wound doubling.

why is this here? shouldn't it be in Army lists?
Also, Rippers are fething useless. In fact, I would rather forfeit a game against them than have to be insulted by a person actually spamming them.
In writing this list, did you do any math? I hear a lot of "should" and "Probably", but very little "this will work because of"
Infantry don't die because you will them to, they die because you use the right amount of firepower on them. Do some math, realise how terrible rippers are for their points and come back.
As barnowl said, This army has 0 synapse. you'll find those HG failing tests and hiding out of range of enemies, and they'll be a colossal waste of points.

I like the idea but the comments are right and you are jus waisting parasite sticking him in a unit of rippers gargoyles do it so much better and if you can afford shrikes that would be great, try this list should work a bit better.
Parasite of mortrex 160
Prime 80
2 hive guard
2 hive guard 200
10 Ymgarlstealers 230
3 ripper bases
tunnel swarm
3 ripper bases
tunnel swarm
3 ripper bases
tunnel swarm 108
3 warriors
3 shrikes, RC 120
Something like this would be more suited as you have more synapse, take advantage of parasites synapse range for the rippers 24" deep strike them to block line of sight if you choose your targets properley you will find soon enough that parasite will be producing more than enough rippers, you just need to hide your army well enough in the first turn.
