I haven't seen many people playing this but in theory a large unit of wraithguard supported by 2 squads of rangers or pathfinders should be a great combo given the durability of both units the long range and pinning of the rangers keeping things down until the wraithguard get into range. What's your thoughts on this and any obvious flaws you guys see

The most obvious flaw is that pinning is unreliable at best, and usually worthless.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Also, these units are fairly expensive, and can't realistically do much to vehicles.

The rangers won't be able to do much against vehicles but the wraithguard would be able to and given that still have 700 points left in a 1500 point game the anti tank can be covered else where in the army

Pinning also isn't the main thing with this combo it just helps if you get it... The durability is the main thing I see as all the squads are troops or could be troops

The Twilight Zone

A full squad of wraithguard is pretty awesome, but comes in at ~400 points for 10 guard, a spiritseer with conceal and a spear. Plus, they NEED fortune to stay alive, so this means at least 100 points of farseer. Karandras is a good combo to stand in front with his 2+ armor, while giving the unit stealth for a 4+ cover save, but this gets insanely expensive for a slow unit(albeit scoring and lethal at close range)

Rangers don't really do much of anything...they survive largely because they can be ignored and can weather a fair amount of small arms fire(or are out of distance). Plenty of things out there can rip them right off an objective. 1-2 small squads or 1 medium squad is nice, but no more than that. They are not there to support the wraithguard, more harass, camp objectives, and hopefully shoot at MC's or TEQ.

10 Guardians with a scatter laser put out similar damage with just the scatter laser, and cost the same as 5 rangers.

If you want support, get 2 prisms, or some wraithlords, or anything else with long range fire. A night spinner costs about as much as 6 rangers, will do more damage and still causes pinning(plus the difficult and dangerous terrain effects)

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

I think that while the rangers arent extremely deadly they can be difficult to shift if set up in good cover and simply create more long range targets for my opponent to deal with instead of the wraithguard

you either charge them or you use a cover ignoring weapon on them. Sonic Blasters, Thunderfire Cannons, Flamers, they all work.
