Subject: Dual court vs D-Lord Necrons

Hey all.
I run a few variants of balanced-take-all-comers Necrons. I use 2 Night Scythes, 2 A Barges, 2 Ghost Arks, small units of Warriors and 6 Wraiths as a core, then add in stuff per the points level. You may also note I did not list HQ.
This is the question:
I always run Zahndrekh. Always. The second Hq has either been a tooled up DLord to lead the Wraiths or a tooled up Overlord on foot to lead a brick of troops, and unlock a second Royal Court.
What is the better idea? Have other Necron players mulled over this?

I use both depending upon the need/my personal feelings that day. Since the advent of 6th, I almost always bring a d-lord if I'm going to run a unit of wraiths. Unit-wide preferred enemy with s6 rending attacks is too good to pass up. On the other hand, I almost always take two Overlords if I'm running a 6-unit infantry list so I can max out on lords/crypteks to up the killing power/ability power of those units. Personally, I like both builds. I've run both at local tournaments with success.

I prefer the Destroyer Lord myself. A Dlord and a unit of Wraiths will run Roughshod over most units with ease.
I almost never find a need for a Double court, now a days. I don't need the extra Lanceteks, two Solar pulses isn't a must anymore, and you really don't need the Unique Wargear that much from the rest of the options. The extra court members just aren't needed.

Zandrekh + Destroyer Lord in a squad of Wraiths. I would never want to miss Zandrek again, his USR is incredibly useful. Tank Hunter with Gauss or on Heavy Destroyers is just so good and it comes at 5 points extra...this being said, he is useful because I run a Silver Tide list with a blob of 20 Warriors, thus the reg orb really comes in handy...We Will Be Back is only effective when used with big groups. /e: @Sasori: Proxy hard?

An Overlord on foot is meh. Wraiths should be led by a DLord who can bring them safely into cc.

yeah I would agree with Zandrekh and Destroyer lord. Preferred enemy is so good it has made destroyers much more viable in this edition. I find Royal courts to be rather expensive point sinks that usually dont pay off. Although the lightning field upgrade on a stormtek is a pretty sweet option and the voltaic staff isnt a bad option either.

DL-Wraith-star has been my mainstay since the codex dropped, and the changes 6th brought with it only cemented its place.
Besides, there are only two Harbingers I ever use anymore (Despair and Storm), and have found just the single cryptek in each key unit (Deathmarks and Warriors in Nightscythes, respectively) is plenty adequate. The only time I would consider a second Overlord would be if I'm playing double force org.

At double force org, I'd run 4 Overlords for 20 lance-tek with 4 pulses. It's going to be a long dark game.

What for though? You need to be in about 24'' anyway for most Necron guns and Night Fight simly does not cut it anymore at this range.

Six Death & Despair squads, though (with multiple Despair-teks each)... mmm, now that's delicious cheese.

With the D-Lord, orb or no orb? Is it worth it for the RP roll? Whats the math on that per point?

Deranged Necron Destroyer
|
Doubles wraith star is really scary to the opponent, it will just munch everything, played this yesterday and on some occasions already and it walks over most armies with ease:
1 Destroyer Lord w/ 2+, Mindshackle Scarabs
1 Destroyer Lord w/ 2+, Mindshackle Scarabs
1 Inquisitor
5 Necron Warriors w/ Nightscythe
5 Necron Warriors w/ Nightscythe
5 Necron Warriors
5 Grey Knight Strikers w/ Psycannon
5 Canoptek Wraiths w/ 2 Whipcoils
5 Canoptek Wraiths w/ 2 Whipcoils
1 Annihilation Barge
1 Annihilation Barge
1 Annihilation Barge
1 Dreadknight w/ Teleporter & Heavy Incinerator
either he eliminates your shooting as 5 tesla destructor and the psycannon will do scary damage, or he goes for the wraiths... and even then the oddbal factor is the Dreadknight with his 30" shunt and being jump is quite difficult to keep in check.
If you dont want the allies you have another 370 points to play with. That would be adding a other 5 man necron unit and maybe go for the another 6 wraiths and up the other units to 6 themselves.

You have ruled this galaxy for ten thousand years
Yet have little of account to show for your efforts
Order. Unity. Obedience.
We taught the galaxy these things
