So the title says above. People I talk to say that it is the iPhone and some the galaxy, but what do you guys and gals of dakka think? The Galaxy III or the iPhone5

I generally try not to buy Apple products, so I'd have to go with the Samsung.

I've got an iPhone 4S (so not exactly what you're comparing it to), while my fiancee has a Galaxy S III. Outside of the interface, I've found really no massive difference outside of the ways each gets Apps. The iPhone is tied to the walled garden of iTunes, while the Galaxy S III uses (obviously) android apps.

Outside of that... anything either of us has tried to do to show the other phone up is undone by going and finding the same App or a similar App.

Really, the only thing it boils down to is - do you want to use iTunes or android apps, and which interface you prefer. Personally, I can't stand the android interface, it's ugly and bloated for what I want a smart phone to do, and I've got plenty through iTunes already with music, apps and movies. So going iPhone was an easy decision.

I'd put the Commando over all of them, but then I like damage resistant everything.

If you jailbreak the iPhone5, it is superior in most ways. However, if you do not jailbreak it, then you are left with a very expensive mobile itunes device and picture uploader, and little else.

I used to work for Apple - which forever soured me on their products (Iphone was just about to be released - we had test models to play with. That was enough to put me off them - but I did learn the two mouse-click device kill, though).

I'd go with the Galaxy but it's got it's own problems and issues.

Most of the iphone owners (that I know - and that's about 50 of my closer acquaintances) upgrade to the newer model more because of what they have tied to it (itunes, music and stuff, and so on) those ghostly fetters that tie them down.

To someone who has never owned a smartphone, they'd probably go for the SIII, unless they were impressed purely by the look and "coolness" of the iPhone.

I don't have both but i'm favorin' the prestigious I-Phone series.

I have a SG3 and I like it. It's a good phone.

I am a little biased here as I hate all things Apple, but I would say go for the Samsung Galaxy 3. For one thing, thanks to Apple refusing to sign a contract with Adobe, Flash Player no longer works on iPhones, so no YouTube for a start.

That YouTube app is crap compared to the Android one. I personally dislike most of the larger apple mobile devices (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad, etc..) (I have an iPod Touch, which makes me a bit of hypocrite in this, but it was an upgrade from the parents after my nano was stolen). I've never liked apple's phones, and I know more people that have jailbroken their phones (voiding their warranties) than have left it alone. They wanted the phone for the social status it confers, but wanted customization that didn't come with their phone. Personally I have a droid razr maxx, and bought it over the galaxy s3 due to battery life and price (same memory space for 50 bucks cheaper). I would go with the s3 if you've got people around you with that phone so you can use that fancy tap to transfer feature. If not, go with some other android device (or the Samsung Note 2, which is roughly the same size, but comes with a stylus and other features I don't know about lol).

Samsung is Android.

Personally? Galaxy. The iPhone 5 can be poorly built as has been shown on numerous occasions, and I personally find the Android system easier to use than the iPhone.
