vulkan or a term chaplain, which do you think would work better with assault terms?

If i go with vulkan ill need to drop a scout squad, leaving me with 3 tac squads still in a 2k list, one tac squad will be in the FoR so it will only leave 2 to roam around and cap stuff, if you want me to i can post my full list if you need me to

Vulkan.
He buffs the terminators, and also buffs the rest of the army as well.

I cant remember but could some one clarify the buffs he gives, im looking at his page in my codex but im not seeing any thing about his buffs, I could have sworn it was something to do with meltas flamers, and power weapons. anyone know the page number off the top of their head?

It's Vulkan's Chapter Tactics; page 93, right column.

so wait since all TH would be master crafted does that mean they would all get re rolls to hit? just like if they had a chaplain with them?

No, only one reroll per Thunder Hammer, which means you have to roll each Terminator separately, which means extra time used up.

No, you get to reroll ONE miss per weapon, so if you miss two attacks with a Thunder Hammer you only get to reroll one of them. This is also why you have to roll the models separately; otherwise you won't know if the misses are from the same weapon or from two different.

ok i get what you are saying, if i had vulkan with a th/ss squad and assaulted the 5 terms would get 1 re-roll and vulkan would get one re-reoll since they are using different weapons. gotach

No thats incorrect, its more like each terminator would attack seperately each getting a single re-roll, but Vulkan wouldn't becuase he doesnt use a thunderhammer. Hope that helps.

From a single unit perspective, I'd go with the chaplain. Vulcan is very powerful, but requires you build your whole army around him to justify his points. Not that this is a bad thing, Salamander lists are one of the better builds in the vanilla codex. But they do tend to look the same after a while.

The chaplain also gives his bonus to lightning claws, and I like mixed units of assault terminators.

Another option is Cassius from the Ultramarines. If you file the name and fluff off, he would fit right in with Salamanders. His point cost is woefully low for the gear he's packing. As long as you don't need the TDA for deep striking, or a jump pack, he should be your go-to chaplain.

Well i dont need deep strike he would be in a god hammer land raider. i was just thinking i could take vulkan since my 3 tac squads already have a flamer ML and a combi melta. i could just change the ML to a multi melta

@johnom but vulkans spear is master crafted so it would get to reroll as well right?

Doesn't a Godhammer have a ten man capacity? That means 5 Termies and no-one else.

But Vulkan is by far the better option.

i have always though god hammer to just be a standard LR with TH/SS termies did not think it needed to be full but any way

The name godhammer, like crusader and redeemer, refers to the armament and transport capacity

To clarify exactly how it works for TH in a Vulkan list; lets say you have ten TH/SS assault terminators. They assault something and get 3 attacks per guy. You would then roll your 30 dice *three at a time*. In each group of three dice, you get to reroll one miss for being master crafted. Hope that helps

or, if your oppenent is slightly more loose, you can roll 30 attacks then re-roll 10 of the 30. that how i always played it, but some rule nazi's would get on my case.

Or...instead of rolling 3 at a time, just use different color dice: 3 black, 3 red, 3 white...etc, etc. Roll 30, grab the appropriate misses (1 from each color) and keep on trucking.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

As long as Vulkan boosts whatever fills up the rest of your 2000 points then I would do it.

It really depends on the list you're bringing. A bunch of meltas and flamers along with Thundernators? Vulkan. Don't have a bunch of meltas and flamers? Chaplain. For me, I'd go with the one that benefits the army as a whole, instead of "how can I make this unit smash even more enemies into a bloody pulp?"

well would it be justifiable to use vulkan if he is in a TH squad. and i have 3 tac squads each with a MM a flamer a combi melta, and a LR with a multi melta.
