Subject: Skyray missle defense gunship as AA

we've essentially allowed IA rules for our local scene and I've come back to take a 2nd look at the Tau skyray and anti-air. We've had alot of fliers lately and so far my tactics have been to ignore them or hope for a skyfire nexus but it doesn't always work especially as people figured out how to get past my disruption pods now a days on my hammerhead.
I could always get a baracuda but with armor 10's and 2 hull points at 200+ points, even with some decent guns, if I come on early, it's gonna get wiped out by other fliers pretty badly or even some ground units. Remora drones aren't really that good either but kind of survivable I guess though but still has a hard time shooting down other fliers. As I typically run eldar allies, I could also do something there for air power but I don't really know what they have.
Long story short, I'm now apparently get the AA upgrade locally anyway. It's 30 more points but lets the skyray get skyfire. It's still limited by painting a marker light and then have to shoot a missle (limit of 6) total. It also limits the sky ray to remain stationary so it can't use the disruption pod or jink save and still just hits on a 4+... but better than nothing I guess lol.
In addition to the typical bunker/las cannon or quad gun I like to bring, I'm debating if this is a worth while option. or is there something in Eldar that'd be a better choice?

I'm going to try using a Bastion with a broadside squad inside and on top and getting a quad gun with it for anti-flier. That way the quad gun can try and down the flier when it comes in, if it fails I still have some relatively well defended broadsides with twin-linked railguns that may have a chance.
I have a friend that thinks the Barracuda is really good, but I'm just not too sure about it. It has an ion cannon and a twin-linked missile pod so 5 S7 hits against fliers, but that's expensive for something that seems to be outclassed by a lot of the other fliers out there. I think even the Storm Talon gets a bit more punch than the Baracuda.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."
"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

the ion cannons on the baracuda gives it nice range to pop other fliers but the problem is that fliers can almost always close the distance to it from the other board edge and in air vs air, it will get shot down pretty easily by any other fighter out there unless you can always make sure it comes in after they do.
AV 10 is just too weak for 200+ points. At least AV 11 I'd say. Necrons only pay like 110 points for twin linked str 7 shooting too and it's av 11. Just close the distance easily by cruising. Our standard board is too small to really take advantage of 60' guns on fliers.

The skyray just aint worth it, more boradsides are almost as effective in AA, and they rape ground armor as well.
Stick them in a fortress and they become also very hard to actually remove. add a quad on top for extra shootness (powered by yet more broadsides, or by deathrains, with the team leader having a HWMT so he can fire his guns and the quad)

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now. |

Remora have network marker light, 2 smart missiles, and twin-linked 36" range burst cannon.
2 of them is 220 points, and you should be getting 3 S5 hits and 1 S8 hit each turn. Since they are flyers, they all have skyfire.
Shrouding makes them really tough to kill. It's better then the pods, as getting close doesn't help.
I would take a pair, in support of broadsides, quadguns and missile pod crisis suits.

I really don't see the Remora as a good anti-flyer unit. Even against A10 you may get 1 glance/pen out of the three hits, with a possible cover/invul save. Against A12 it's useless, so you'll have to hit most fliers from the rear.
The seeker missiles seem okay until you realize they're a one shot weapon while most fliers will have a more reliable high strength weapon.
The Remora lacks the firepower to take down fliers and it's only saving grace is that it's cheaper and gets a better save. Honestly though I think the save would be rather pointless. it's armament is laughable. After the seeker missiles are expended the unit has only the burst cannons to rely on and it'd be better just to ignore those until the rest of the army is out of viable targets.

Is there any good cheaper fliers from our eldar battle brothers?
So far I'm leaning towards broadsides in the bastion or something. hiding in AV 14 with 3 fire ports is fine with me However how do you shoot the lascannon / quad gun on top? Get another unit of like fire warriors or something to shoot it?
I don't think any of our fliers are worth a darn and seems like that's the trade off we're getting for having our 3+ cover save tanks the more I think on it (along with broken kroot)
Here's hoping the next Tau/Eldar codex will do better I'm guessing. Incidentally skyfire nexus and hammerheads are my friends XD
