I got an army painted by BTP, and generally im really happy with it, as its infinitly better than i could have done, and the cost of the models alone in aust, is what i paid for the models AND the painting from purchasing from the US...

But, i noticed this, and i just dont have any idea what its meant to be
http://www.bluetablepainting.com/view_image.php?imgID=131178

The guy is painted great (to my standard) but wth is that missile launcher?

Everything else there is (again to my standard,,,) fantastic, and i love it, Then i see that and im just like 'the hell, that passed some kind of quality control and got a photo taken of it?' What would cause the missile launcher to look so,,, idk, bad? for lack of a better word..

I'm sorry but there is nothing professional about that whatsoever.

@dragonzord please try out other commission painters, there are many good ones on this site. You will be far happier with the results.

I also think that for a paid for paint job it looks rather poor and the bases look like an after thought. I hope you didn't pay alot.

@ Dragonzord: Clarify something for me; is this figure a part of your army? Or was this just random pic of a Space Wolf in the BTP Gallery?

Also, what level paint job did you pay for (if you don't mind me asking)?

Poor posing of model.
Use of badly converted/glued/generally fethed up none standard part (missile launcher)
Grainy paint texture.
Details missed when painting.
Lack of proper shading/highlighting.
Shoddy basing (snow over feet, untidy rim)
"blood effect" that is simply spattered red paint and looks nothing like blood.

How's that for starters?

These are the same issues I have with this paint job, especially with an emphasis on the grainy paint texture.

It appears as if the paint was not watered down for proper consistency. It looks like it was taken directly from the pot and splotched on.

Its a start of a new space wolf army, so yes its mine. I only just got those images from btp, so i havent finished paying for it. Its a level 3 paintjob, with level 5 on the characters.

The bases are actually how i wanted it. Except for snow bases to have the normal black edges seems a huge oversight, and i agree there.

If youre talking about this model alone, then yes, in my OP i criticized it myself and said that i dislike it. The army on a whole though, i think looks pretty damn good for your average level paint job.

Looking through BTP level samples I am inclined to say that I would never pay someone to abuse my models like that.
Even their "elite" and "hero" level samples make me cringe when considering you are expected to pay for that.
I see better offerings from several Dakka posting commission painters.
I'm glad you are happy with the service, but I would be livid.

you know, it really is a horribly done model... But it makes me ask, why would they take a photo of it as some kind of centrepiece? I guess at least theyre not trying to hide anything...

They look like a standard BTP tabletop quality paint job. They should look OK on the table but nothing that will make anyone else say they look amazing. I looked at the rest of the pictures in the gallery and the painting is not clean. If they could not do eyes in a proper fashion they should have just painted the area a dark brown, and no one would notice it on the table. They should have at least given the Armor some highlights, it look a bit flat. The Hero models look to be a standard table top quality and nothing more. It looks like a rushed job.

It is not they were trying to hid anything, it is they did not see anything wrong with the model. It is on par with the rest of the miniatures in the gallery.

jeez if people will pay for that level of painting i'm going into business as I wouldn't even class those as "tabletop" standard.
