Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

Third ditch from the left, Istvaan V

I recently got Betrayal, and firstly I'd like to say that, if you can get past the stupid price, it's totally worth it! The army list is very good, as are the Legion specific rules.

However, I'm wondering what the future holds for this, and when we're going to see more Legions (I'm waiting for Imperial Fists and Space Wolves)

My theory:

Book 2: Massacre (confirmed)
Dropsite Massacre
Raven Guard, Salamanders, Iron Hands
Chaosy Betrayal Legions, maybe Iron Warriors, Night Lords, Alpha Legion, Word Bearers?

Book 3: Burning (best rough title I could think of)
Burning of Prospero
Space Wolves
Thousand Sons
Imperial Army?

Book 4
Battle of Calth
Ultramarines
Word Bearers
Naval combat

Book 5
Caliban rebellion
Dark Angels
Lutherites

Book 6: Mechanicum
Battle for Mars
Adeptus Mechanicus, possible Imperial Fists?
Dark Mechanicum?

Any other theories?

Apparently at Games Day they announced the 2nd book would be Iron Hands, Salamanders, Night Lords and Word Bearers.

For the 3rd book I could see SW and TS for the burning of Prospero and the RG and AL for when they apparently messed with Corax's experiments to replace his lost men.

I can see there being one standalone book for the loyalists that didn't do too much directly with the Heresy, this could include the DA being led around by the NL, the Battle of Calth, BA and that daemon world they went to ( the name escapes me at the moment)

I -think- we're expecting books 2 and 3 to be the dropsite massacre with a number of legions in each book to allow them to focus more on individualise the legions and spacing out the books. Which would leave book 4 for the burning of prospero, and maybe a NL/DA conflict.

The Blood Angels went to Signus Prime.

Spreading out the Dropsite Massacre might be good. I just hope that the fluff isn't spread too thinly.

Book 2 has been confirmed as Part 1 of the Massacre. It has been confirmed that Word Bearers, Night Lords, Iron Hand, Salamanders plus mechanicum are in this book. Abaddon and Loken will be the next character set to come out. The campaign will focus on the first half of the Istvaan V Massacre.

Book 3 is Part 2 of the Massacre with the rest of the massacre legions: Raven Guard, Iron Warriors, Alpha Legion.

Book 4 could be the stalling battles of the Dark Angels, Ultramarines, and Space Wolves.

Book 5 should be the Battle for Terra with the last 3 legions (Imperial Fists, Blood Angels, White Scars) and Custodes.

The Machanicum will be sprinkled in each book just like the first. The remaining books may be smaller because the full legion list is already in book one.

Any other books in the set could focus on the clean up operations following Terra...the many grudge campaigns and removing chaos from key systems.

The exploits of the blood angels makes me wonder if we might see more FW Daemon models and HH rules for them in a Signus Prime themed halfbook. Not sure what they'd merge it with. Perhaps book 4 or 5 will be UM vs WB and BA vs Daemons. It'd give a nice diversity and build up to the use of daemons on the battle for terra.

It would be cool if they brought out the big E in the battle for terra book, but thats just me.

They're just going to time-jump through the whole Heresy and skip right to the final battle?

Knowing GW/FW, we won't see the Siege of Terra until Book 20 or something.

The Battles for Calth and Signus Prime were so big (multiple planets, whole new army list, shipboard/naval combat) that they'd probably have their own books.

And yes, the God-Emperor of Badassery should make an appearance...

Most likely, yes. If you read most time lines and history of the Heresy this what happens: The Fall, the Purge, the Delay, Battle for Terra, and the Aftermath. Also, every book needs to add new Legions. I don’t see 2-3 books adding a single legion each between the Drop Site Massacre and Terra siege. GW/FW is a business first game maker second, there has to be enough content to warrant $140 a book. And by content I mean new units which require new models for people to buy. Although I believe the remaining books will be smaller.

While large battles (they would have to be to bog down multiple Legions) the delaying campaigns were nothing more than delaying tactics and relatively uneventful signally. Hence you could wrap all of them in a single book.

I’m pretty sure the same presentation that addressed book 2 mentioned the inclusion of the Emperor.

I suppose how comprehensively they cover each part of the heresy depends on how successful the releases are. Personally I can't see, at FW price levels, enough demand to warrant FW working on niche models like Sisters of Silence, Dark Mechanicum etc.

The Mechanicum and I assume Dark Mechanicum bits, are already being added. As it stands now the second book will most likely be out before all the new units in the first get models.

Business models don't support that approach. By the time the released the first book they had the entire line planned and in some stage of design. While they could see a reason to split a book mid product release, the work required to do so might push the book release too far appart from the previous book making it marketing suicide. They have to ride the wave of interest which is why we have not had an advance schedule of books and models.

I really don't understand what part of what I said you are responding to. I said they will gauge how detailed they cover the rest of the Heresy Stories based on the success they have as they go. Not sure what you are talking about.

My response really wasn't a direct response to your statement but used as context.

That said, by now all the books are pretty much written because if they follow normal production times this is the quickest part of the entire process. Once the books are written units can be play tested and models designed. At the same time a basic release timeline would be set and book layout designed.

My point is that there is no real changes at the level you are suggesting that could be made at this point at least for the next few books. I don’t see them holding out on new rules for legions over 6+ books. Using the model of the first book and that we know what the next 2 books cover, I’m pretty confident in my prediction.

There cannot be too long of a lull between books, but we will wait for models much longer.
