Hey all, I'm making a new CSM list and I'm trying to decide what the best "mark" I should put on my DP.. Any ideas? (The DP has Black mace, PA, and Wings)

Best mark is debatable, not sure how many of them you're taking but ideally you should take 2 daemon princes, or none at all, given that with their increased points cost, and how infamous they were during the last chaos codex, players tend to target them as a high priority, and they seldom get to do what you actually want them to do. This is especially true considering the expensive wargear you're taking/

i like nurgle myself. shrouded improves your cover if you are jumping around and makes staying on the ground or hiding behind tanks an option if you need to. also i like the nurgle powers.

I've had good experience with Wings, Daemon of Tzeentch, Armor and Gift. I leave the mace at home because when I do bring it, I end up winning combat and sweeping in the first round then being shot off the board.
If there was ever a model that that Boon chart was made for, it's the DP.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought that Deamon Princes could not purchase the gift of mutation, as they'd already...well...mutated.

Yep Daemon Princes can't buy rolls on the chart as they do not have the 'Champion of Chaos'-rule and so they do not have to challenge other Characters like all your other ICs have to.

Playing mostly Necromunda and Battletech, Malifaux is awesome too!

Actually they can buy Gift of Mutation as it is listed under Chaos Rewards which they have access to.

Yes they can, per the Chaos Rewards section, it costs 10 points. I see no reason not to get this with every daemon prince.

You can only have one Artifact on a single Character.

Nurgle makes them far more survivable

Axe of Blind Fury seems like a waste on a monstrous creature. Your attacks are already AP2, after all.

I'd rather stick the axe on a standard Chaos Lord with the Juggernaught of Khorne. You'll get a nice WS5 S6 T5 I5 W4 3+/4++ model -- and at not much more than the Daemon Prince's base cost.

Being able to get up to 13 S9, Ap2 attacks at initiative 8 seems like a waste to you?

Also you want to keep WS 9 as MEQ only hit you on 5+. The Burning Brand instead is pretty awesome on a Prince with wings as he is then a poor man's Helldrake.

Has anyone done the math to compare Daemon of Tzeentch and Daemon of Nurgle? I'm not sure which makes the Prince more survivable but I'm leaning to DoT.

As the mark of Nurgle gives a bonus to the cover save a DP gets, I am not sure there is any way to calculate the benefit that it gives a DP of nurgle, compared to the benefit that a DP of Tzneech gets.
Frankly the whole change of what a mark does for a daemon in this codex annoys me greatly.

yes, it is incomparable. Shrouding is probably going to be giving you 3+ cover on the ground behind something or jinking, and 5+ all the time. It gives you nothing in close combat or against things that ignore cover.

reroll ones on a 3+/5++ can be very good. It is almost like 2+/4++(about halfway there from 3+/5++) which is significant. This is thus better against small army, better when flying, better in close combat but worse when on the ground behind something or jinking against heavy weapons.

IMO, Id take a DPoN, as then they arent going to be ID'd by a Railgun in turn one. Ive seen this happen.

However, Tzeentch is good, as then you take the Sigil of Corruption, and no PA (as the save is Invulnerable). Plus the Tzeentch Powers are quite good

Daemon of Nurgle does not get +1 toughness, as has been described often

DP cannot have sigil of corruption
if they could have a sigil of corruption, making them a Daemon of Tzeench wouldnt make the save better than 4++ so you would still need power armor.

Tzeench powers are terrible. midly silly short ranged direct damage

DPs cant take Sigil? My Allied list is illegal then...

and I thought being a Daemon of did the same as a mark.

nope cannot take special issue wargear, also the Daemon of X is completely different from Mark of X

Ugh most of these dudes seem incredibly expensive for something that can be instantly killed or grounded or singled out like that. Grounding tests don't really let you take saves and once the garbage hits you once you become a great target for missiles etc.

Defensive upgrades are favourite. It's too bad the guy doesn't come with the 3+ or a 4++. Defensive bonuses, staying cheap as possible and trying not to kill whole squads too quickly!
