Subject: Got an interesting idea for Grey Knights vehicles, need help fleshing it out though

I'm starting a small GK army, and while they're going to be the typical silver color, I'm going to incorporate a dark grey/blue as a secondary color instead of the red, with their vehicles being grey with Dark Reaper on hatches, doors, etc. I tried painting a Razorback with Dawnstone, and it's really no different than the grey it was primed (I was hoping it would've been a little darker, I guess), and as I was thinking of ways to spruce it up, I thought of something different to try.
What about painting the vehicles with the GK's power weapons as inspiration? I want an army that pops and sticks out with slightly brighter colors (I'm mainly a Necron or CSM player, and I'm tired of drab and dark colors), and this seems like a decent idea. However, I just don't know how to implement it correctly without it looking to cheesy (I don't want a lightning paint job or something like that). I will be doing the power weapons the blue glowing color, and I thought this might be something different to try out. It can incorporate the darker blues (I was sticking with Dark Reaper for the secondary vehicle color, but maybe it can be the main color) I want in my army, but also, maybe fluff wise, emulate the force and power of their Nemesis weapons.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can try this out?

You said you're sick if drab and boring colours, why not paint your army primarily blue? The silver scheme is pretty monotonous in my opinion. Or maybe paint your guys grey instead of the silver..
Here's what I did. Made up some back story, still isn't really fluffy.

That's a pretty cool color there, definitely different. I've toyed with the idea of making them non-silver, and the more I think about it, I might go that route. I'd leave silver for the named HQ units, and for things like Venerable Dreadnoughts. I might go with a grey/blue-ish color, just need to find the right colors.

I painted kine silver but then gave it a blue wash. Still keeps it fluffy but prevents it from being boring and looking like every other GK army

Test out some colors and i think you'd like something different than silver. I did grey and purple accents which I liked, but the purple drew me in and I went that route.
Try some colors and post em

First off, GK being silver is only recent fluff. Originally they were a dull flat grey kinda like Carcarodons & in their 2nd/3rd ed Index Astartes article they were almost black. Now, that being said, if you start with a grey base of your choice, you could always paint a power weapon effect all over their armor to show their psychic powers washing over them.

Did Fulgrim Just Behead Ferrus?

Someone on Dakka had a really nifty dark red color scheme for their Grey Knights. I, myself, am also painting mine purple (always wanted to do a Hawk Lords army, but never got around to it, so this is the next best thing).
